Study shows Megaupload shutdown had zero effect on piracy :O

Not that I am incredibly surprised but I just found it interesting to have come across this article:

Megaupload shutdown did nothing to slow piracy, study finds

So, not only did we the taxpayers pay for the raid and all the legal mumbo jumbo they went through to get the clearance to go get this guy. But, they took 40 million dollars from him. Where did that money go? Why isn't anyone else being raided? What the hell was the point?

Wouldn't it seem this is more of a free access to millions of dollars kind of thing then a suitable way to fight piracy kind of thing?

Meanwhile the lease on the guy's mansion ran out while he is in jail, his three young kids and wife pregnant with twins are out on the street, and his competitors are seeing more traffic then ever.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think he is completely innocent but the guy's kids aren't to blame. We need a different way.

So, the moral of the story is, you'll be fine pirating and running servers ...just don't make more money then the next guy. What a joke.

Look, the problem is not just with piracy - the problem is with outdated business models. The world is changing so we need to change too. At the end of the day we must make maximum profit.

Chasing after torrent sites and filesharing sites will not necessarily end up bringing in more money. But I guess we'll have to wait a few more years for everyone to realize that.
