Sign: "Need a website for your business? Go to ww.yoursite.com. Local company with full service"

And plaster them any and everywhere in your area.

If it works out you can advance to billboards...

Road sign advertisement is one of effective medium to reach more audiences.. But the area to place the billboard is very important. it will be effective only if you place the ads in more crowded areas.

You see these where people have created a sticker and stuck it on the traffic light poles where people stop at red lights.

    Most likely illegal.

Just be very careful with cities, towns and municipalities that have sign bylaws! Sign seizures and fines can get very expensive...

Not really, there are some obscure businesses who are out in the sticks who have yet to advertise online but need business very badly.

There are places where you can put up a cheap plastic sign and it will stay for months. Others and it will be taken down quickly. Just use common sense.

Nothing can be more successful than doing business legally!

If everyone followed the letter of the law... this country would not exist. We are in hard economic times, I would not let some petty local ordinance stand in my way of doing business. However, that being said, I would try to keep the signs in areas that are not so strict.

I remember many, many years ago helping a sporting association put out posters all over the city promoting their new season.

12 hours after putting them out the president had me on the phone:

"I've had the police on the phone, telecom on the phone, the council on the phone...any time I'm expecting the dog catcher and the army to give me a call!"

Apparently it is illegal in many areas to put posters in most public spaces without permission.

Doesn't mean you won't get lucky and get a client.

A smarter method might be having some kind of gift consultation certificate that you let appropriate businesses give out as a gift to their clients (printers, accountants, office supply stores etc.)

One of the funniest things I've seen was a poster from a guy outlining his innocence and how he was badly treated by the police etc etc etc. (it was obvious this guy was a shady character).

He put the posters on Australia Post Letter Boxes (where people put mail they want to send) which is definitely illegal.

Kind of worked against his claims of innocence a little.

          Kindest regards,
          Andrew Cavanagh

Many years ago I helped put up a load of signs tied to signs at traffic junctions. The signs had a contact number on them and prompty got a call from our local council to remove all signs immediately or face prosecution! Obviously this relates to my local area in the UK and laws may be different. Of course there's legal ways to post like on billboards but certainly were I am these cost serious bucks as you usually need to book a block of months then you add costs of the advertisement etc. Think there's cheaper ways to advertise.
