Blog Content or Info Product Content? Need advice!

Okay, I've been giving this a lot of thought lately but I haven't been able to come up with a good solution yet, so I'd like to ask some of the more experienced warriors what has worked for them and what they recommend...

I've been trying to blog as regularly as possible and provide some really useful stuff to anyone who reads it. Being a broke loser when I started using the internet, I came to appreciate those bloggers that really put some effort into offering free stuff and valuable information for nothing in return. So I'm all about giving back when it comes to that whole concept or whatever.

My issue is that I would like to start working on/developing my first info product...like maybe just a relatively short eBook or whatever. Just for the experience of creating one for the first time, and maybe making a little bit of extra cash from it as well (added bonus). But I find myself writing so much for my blog (and trying so hard to make it great so it stands out) that it leaves me with almost nothing left to say on any given topic...

I need to figure out some sort of balance between my blog content and more "exclusive" (I guess?) knowledge that I would like to use for one of my products...Does anyone have any advice or suggestions on how to go about this? I'm a bit stumped.

They key about writing for a blog is to give some valuable information but not everything. Especially if you want to sell or give away an ebook.

Let's say you come up with 12 great ways to do something. Pick 3 of them and go over them on the blog, giving good information of course for those who want to stop there and then say for more details on 1-3 and to get the other 9 (fill in the blank) that will (solve a problem for them) sign up here and get my ebook.

So start writing the ebook and then only take a little bit of it for the blog and you will be doing both.

I would definitely give one ebook away of some real quality and value to get people on my list because the money is in the list.

Then for future blog posts, you just start by writing the ebook and use a part of it for the blog post again and then have a link to sell it.

Post something new on your blog once a week or once every 2 weeks so that you have time to write the ebook.

      Totally agree with TopKat22.

There are couple of other points that I would like to suggest for your consideration.

First, once the ebook is complete, get some seasoned warriors to give you a honest feedback of your product that you could add to your copy before you launch it as WSO so that it builds immediate credibility for your product.

The feedback you receive could also be added to your blog copy thus encouraging your visitors to purchase the ebook to resolve their problem.

And second, offer 100% commission to affiliates so that they would be more inclined to your promote your product hence increase your list of buyers.

      Good luck.

If I were you, as long as you already have some content on your blog, I would definitely put time and resources into your info product. When done right, getting your own product out there and making some money will start the snowball for many good things for you.

In terms of the content versus exclusive content, what is your main topic/niche?

I have a poker site where I write articles on how to play good solid poker. I am in the middle of writing a e-book/video series but as others have said I only give part away in my blog posts.
On some minor subjects I will write the whole thing in my blog but important advanced subjects I mention them in my blog but do not give away any solid details

Thanks for all the great advice and tips so far. I'm going to try some of the suggestions here. As for my topic/niche, I'm not totally decided yet. Possibilities I'm considering are kindle publishing (maybe a bit saturated at the moment), making money for absolute beginners, Fiverr, HTML for beginners, or how to get started with PLR for freelance writers.

No need for either/or. Do both.

Keep up putting out your best on your blog and still put that information into a product. Give the product to your subscribers if it is all the same information, but sell it elsewhere. Or sell it to your readers for a nominal fee and higher to non-subscribers when you promote.

Plenty of people have taken their blog posts and compiled them into books that still sell - look at Seth Godin.
