Congratulated on marketing by customers - weird?

I just finished a small launch to my very friendly list with a new niche learning info-product (edit: not IM or business related). A bit of PLF and Mass Control involved, all very friendly.

I got a blog comment straight away saying basically:

"Congratulations on a great marketing campaign. I've been looking forward to your product launch and bought it straight away."

Obviously that's great, but do you ever feel like you've been 'caught out' when you are congratulated on your marketing?!

    Well, you need to realize who your market is. You are trying to sell to a crowd that is or soon will be trying to sell stuff as well.

    If you are able to impress another marketer with your page, that is a good thing.

    No no, this is totally a non-IM market, totally nothing to do with making money, business etc, it's a hobby market.

    Heh... Well first off, it's a very smart question for you to ask;

    I've told the story often of when I was first writing sales letters, I wrote a sales letter that I thought was great, and people actually emailed me that it was the best sales letter they'd ever read, and would I write sales letters for them... But practically no on actually BOUGHT the product i was selling. (oops)

    I completely rewrote the ad copy and sales went way up, and no one told me they thought the ad was good anymore, they just bought the product.

    That of course may not apply to your situation, but in this particular case of mine, the fact that people thought the ad was slick really hurt sales, so my advice would be to a/b split test different things to see for yourself what works best. Regardless, you're definitely asking the right questions.
