Last night I give a go using pinterest. Boy I was so surprised with the result.

I pin The help from amazon with my amazon affiliate link. And up to this post I got 34 repin and 9 like.

However, there no sales yet because I didn't place any call to action. And I didn't plan my attack.

How I see pinterest is like doing pay per click.

You need a picture and copy ads. The traffic is already there but how you engage play a key role.

I notice a simple way work with pinterest, is having a snipper site.

All the affiliate link at the snipper site and you just pin them.

Another thing I learn is, pinterest a good place to find niche.

Hope this help

Hmmm, I don't know if pinterest will get you sales regardless. Maybe it's like stumbleupon traffic, which is essentially useless if you goal is sales.

pinterest got some negative press a couple of weeks ago, turned out they were replacing links with their own affiliate links behind the scenes!

so, definitely pin things to your own site/landing page, not directly, if they're still doing this

EDIT/CORRECTION: pinterest was only replacing non-affiliate links with their own affiliate links

I wrote up a report on Pinterest today that I'm going to sell and stumbled across a few places that said one benefit of Pinterest is that Internet marketers don't use it so there's no one trying to sell to you. I had to laugh out loud at that one!

Is there any place on the Interent that drives traffic that IMers do not use? LOL

Actually Pinterest allows selling products. You can post a product with a price and Pinterest will automatically put a price banner on the corner of the image.

They are stripping my afflinks by ignoring the aff link and using the final landing page link. I'll have to use a landing page to get around this it seems. What a hassle! ...wait... could have been user error. will report back. Was a user error! They honored my aff link =)

From what I've seen not too many people actually follow the links. They just look at the pretty pictures... This being said, I guess it will depend on what you have to sell (travel packages showing island, hotels, etc.)

Wow... That is very interesting... Are you pinning just images or products? What does your pinterest traffic convert like? Is it a case of volume as opposed to targeting?

Might have to get me an account

I have NEVER seen a more attentive, smarter social media group. I imagine it is because the platform right now is 90%+ women....we'lll see what happens when men pile into this thing.

I mostly post images of funny things or cute animals.....but I also post products. The conversion is fantastic. The engagement is fantastic. The viral factor is better than anything I have ever seen. I get hundreds to thousands of REPINS daily....whether I post something new or not.

Here is my account so you can look at it and see what I do:

Note that the first link I followed from one of your Pins gave me a 404... At least you should send people to the front page?

Now, as I was paying a little more attention today as I have quite a few people active in the ones I follow, I noticed that a certain number of images were indeed marketing to women (nail polish, lose weight, ...) That's really not my market though. I guess I'll have to spend a little more time to see how I could capitalize on my own offerings.

Thank you for putting me back in place!

I think pinterest would be better to advertise your products.

Example: Got a cooking site? Add pins of your food or videos showing it being made.

The entire "spam affiliate links" can be killed quickly.

I see a lot of B&W nudes on pin. This website had a lot of promise. Sadly, a lot of content is NSFW - not safe for work as you can imagine. Still, it does bring in a lot of traffic and it might in the future be run different than now. That said, I am not very happy with what I am seeing. Photographers are not getting credit for their work, and a web site is making a lot of money. Well, this is the perfect disaster recipe.

The people at Pinterest prefer pictures. It is hard to get your Text Noticed. However, there is a similar site with same format and quite good activity flow "chimein" where you can post pictures and create any kind of "Text Posts".

      No they don't.

What they were doing was adding affiliate links through skimlinks to pins of products without affiliate links.

      Do your research.

Just like with any social network, you can get traffic if you target people and offer them good quality well thought out, relevant content.

If you build followers smartly (with similar interests) and get a good profile going before you flood it with products, you can forge a loyal audience.

Plus if you make your blog or website 'pin-friendly' you could get some users sharing your content for you!

I didn't "shout". I highlighted important points in bold and enlarged the fonts so that it stood out to anyone else who may read that false statement. I felt this was necessary since you're accusing a company of theft, possibly muddying their reputation, based on an assumption and lack of research. That's both unfair to the company and the people reading your post, who might believe it as fact.

BTW An online shout is "ALL CAPS"

Good Point. You are correct. It is their site to do with as they please.

Still, they did not strip affiliate links and add their own.

Which, perhaps, is something they should do. Would keep a lot of the spammers away.

I just want to confirm above that they do NOT strip affiliate links if you include them, they only add to links that don't have affiliate codes. I believe they have even come out and confirmed this publicly once the press "exposed" them (even though they weren't being secretive.

At the least to make your site pin-friendly you'd want to add quality properly licensed or copyright owned images to each of your posts.

Next, add the pin button to make it easy for user to pin your content.

And depending on whether you make your livelihood (ie if you're a photographer or artist) from the images people will likely pin you'll want to watermark or have some way to track your images to ensure you get proper credit and back links.

      That's just the basics, IMO.

It's not so much that Pinterest users don't like to read. It's just a way to give visual compartmentalization to things they want to reference and share quickly without having to read.

Interestingly in the post, The Viral Guide to Pinterest Marketing | Colby Almond SEO and Marketing under Step 2, Option 2 suggests

... the average user spent a total of TWO MINUTES and TEN SECONDS on the site. ...What can we conclude from this? Pinterest users actually read the content and click around. ... Why is this? ... females have a much longer attention span than their male counterparts. After studying the analytics, I can 100% confirm that this is the case.
Of course test the veracity of this statement on your own. But as a Pinterest user I can tell you, I like to read. And I like "bookmarking" and discovering things on Pinterest. For me it's like having a magazine where I get to choose who can edit/curate the internet's content.

For the time being...if you are:

    1. A woman
    2. Sell ANYTHING that women buy

You need to be on this platform.

And to all the posts I've seen over the last week about Pinterest:

In the past I have spent hours arguing with people about marketing on certain platforms (mainly twitter)

And I'm not going to spend anytime arguing on this one. If you don't believe in it, don't do it. The less competition I have on this one, the better.
