I just tried to do something and can not get on their page.
It is error to me, or somebody found that?

      These are reputable service providers that comply with the law.

      Don't even go there.

      Not even close to the same kinds of business. Email marketing, done correctly, is completely legal.

      Is it weird? Every data center no matter the level of "protection" the datacenter has, has a small percent (maybe lower then 1% in most cases) of failure, even with out a distributed denial of service attack (extenduating power outages -- run out of generators... internet line issues.. etc).

      An autoresponder like Aweber & Getresponse are HIGH RISK because of the 100's of thousands of e-mails being sent on a daily basis, so it makes sense that they are located in a datacenter that could hold them... YES, they are in the same datacenter.

      If you are running a WSO I would recommend putting a notice on your listing telling people that Aweber is down and to bookmark your page so they dont think that its your site that is broken if you have an opt in.

    I think this is worth underlining:

    NOTE: IF YOU HAVE AWEBER CODE ON YOUR SITE, YOUR SITE MAY NOT BE LOADING! I realised my traffic to a site had taken a big hit (not to mention optins had stopped) - the reason? Aweber Javascript optin (lightbox popup) code was not working, and basically jamming up my site so it didn't load, or took a VERY long time to do so.

    ADVICE: Look into this - if you see your site taking a long while to load, and it says at the bottom something like "Accessing www.aweber.com" or similar pull your Aweber code for the time being until it gets fixed!

          Though I don't play so much in the IM niches, so I can't speak for that. But my sites in politics, wellness, home improvement and sports are all slowest - by far - on Sundays.

          Today, it was not only Aweber, GetResponse as well and a few other related websites ... I don't know for sure, but people reported iContact as well.

          It 'seems' that they all claim it was an issue with a DataCenter that hosted all of these services.

          There have been rumors of DDOS attacks, too.

          No matter what, in any case you should take measures to stay safe in any event.

          Backup your lists frequently.
          Start looking into alternatives, to have a redundancy plan in place, be it 3rd party or self-hosted AR.

          It is just good business practise to think ahead and plan for contingencies like these.

      This is one of the reasons why you should NEVER only
      use the javascript code to display your webforms.

      Instead, get the raw HTML code from AWeber and use
      that on your site. At least your form will display and at
      times when AWeber is down, they usually still collect
      the data and update their systems later.

      Also, if you only use the javascript code, then your
      forms will not be show to users who have javascript
      turned-off in their browsers - at ANY time.

      This is one of the times that I'm thankful that I've also
      got a self-hosted autoresponder where the software,
      lists and hosting are 100% within my control.

    Thanks Markowe. I just tested my main page and it loaded quick and fine, with the aweber optin logo showing as normal, but a test opt in failed unfortunately. I remember this same thing happening 2 years ago and later they said it was for sudden maintenance that had to be done and there was no time for them to inform people. But I think this may be different since get response and the other sites are having the same troubles.

      Yeah, it's probably just the lightbox popup - if you have the HTML embedded on your site then that will display properly. But anything with Javascript has to pull something from Aweber just to display it and therefore will fail if Aweber is down.

      The way they handle this will determine a large percentage of future customers I would guess.

      "Unsheduled maintenance" - quit the bull**** already. The sites are obviously either hacked, or been compromised in some way.

      Whatever it is, I can bet you that a few lists have been poached.

      Its ridiclous that they havent emailed everyone with some form of update and we're finding out about it on a public forum.

        Wonder if it had anything to do with the severe tornados and power outages.

        I redirected my PPC traffic to Infusionsoft. Fortunately I had two systems already set up.

        You may want to put up a quick autoresponder form from one of the other providers as a temporary fix. Or, wait it out if you don't have anything critical running right now.

    Things like this will happen for a reason, not only on the net, it does happen offline also.

    Last evening I found a couple of sites that go through Aweber where very slow, and while doing a refresh they came up partially on not at all.

    So do you run from company A because they have a major outage or because your bank just got robbed. This will happen and we have no control over it.

    What will you do if all the search engines go down?
    Or just google went down?
    What about your host company?

    Oh no want about Facebook? Boy you would be >>>>>>>>

    They have let customers know that there is a problem to the best of there ability.

    Now things do happened offline simliar to this and is it the fault of Wallmark or NYS that there puter system went out or a hurricane knock the store down?

    This just my 2 cents.

    Nobody's brought this up yet? Astronomically unlikely they both go down unless it was a DDOS attack or something but who'd be DDOS'ing two AR providers?

      If you read some of the earlier posts in this thread Brenden, you will see that a number of other major service providers were (or still are) also down.

      There would be a notice on their homepage from the FBI if such a thing did occur.

      This just happened last week with JotForm.com the FBI shut them down for like 2 days. All of my contact forms were disabled as a result.

    I've been trying to get a time sensitive email out for over 10 hours now. This is really frustrating and definitely the worst experience I've had with Aweber over the last five or so years - 99.9% of the time it's been great.

    The other annoying thing is I can't log-in to get my html form code so I can't switch my javascript forms for html one's.

    Anyone know any solutions for this?

        yeah, I could log in also.

    Having said that, let me put this catastrophe in perspective for all you folks who are slamming aweber for being such a terrible company and costing you so much money.

    there are 8760 hours in a year. Aweber was just down for 8-10 of those. That means they were down for about .1 % of a year.

    Now, I probably make more money per hour than the average aweber user, but lets assume you are averaging 100k per year and that is entirely due to aweber. Assuming those numbers, this catastrophe just cost you a whopping $100.

    I realize it may have cost someone who just launched a product much more, but that is definitely the exception. In truth most people are making far less than 100k, so their loss is much less than $100.

    Do you realize how many aspects of your business that are totally within your control you could improve to make an extra $100 this year?

    Yup it's down, I got a message from them earlier that they're working on it - and that signups & unsubs etc will work but there's a bit of a backlog. You can see on their twitter where they're up to, it currently says it's back up intermittently: https://twitter.com/#!/aweber

    Mine are queued but they just don't send...

    It's either not working yet... or there are just millions of
    emails starting to try to get sent at the same time and
    that also delays the send out...

    Hopefully its the second issue...


    Edit: 28 minutes later my brand new queued broadcast was sent...
    so yeah its finally working for me...

    What REALLY bugs me is that there is not a word from them, of apology, of explanation, of anything. I log in and everything is "business as usual". I want more transparency than that - I can't tell you how much that attitude irritates me, and makes me nervous.
