Brand new to internet business. Advice required for a friend.

I was talking to a friend recently who for years has had an ambition to start her own brick and mortar business, but for various reasons didn't feel she could due to startup costs, the risk involved etc, so she remains in her full time 9-5 job, which is starting to get her down.

I mentioned the idea of starting up her own online business of some sort. She sounded pretty sceptical, as I know a lot of people are who haven't done the required research into it yet. So I am just after some advice on her behalf really on the following issues:

1) What do you think is a good way now, in 2012, for someone who has a full time job and could only put a few hours in per day, to make a start on setting up an online business from scratch, with no online business experience?

2) What are the real beginner resources that I could point her to that would convince her as quickly as possible that there is definitely money to be made via online business? I know I spent months researching and getting my head around things before I made a start. I don't wish to overwhelm her, so I am thinking of any resources that could quickly get her up to speed and convince her that making money online is achievable.

She does have traditional business qualifications and has experience in marketing and PR in her day job, so to me, setting up online seemed like a perfect choice for her and would avoid the hefty startup costs and some of the traditional risks involved in setting up a business.

I would be very grateful for any help, advice and resources you could provide for a complete beginner. Many thanks in advance for your help.

    Noble Samurai - Dojo

the market samurai dojo is free and it starts of with a range of videos that cover the first steps of keyword research / can you make money ? would that work or are you looking for other options ?

That's definitely a good set of videos, I've watched them myself. I guess what I was really after were some resources that dispel the myths about internet business and warn about the scams, but also encourage newbies to get started and that there is still genuine ways to be successful online with an online business even if you are new to it.

Actually, is something like the 30 Day Challenge still relevant and appropriate in 2012? What with Google Panda updates penalising small niche sites?

Sure, well I am not any horoo guroo by any stretch, but just thinking outside of the box I would not try and dispel any myths, nor overplay any scams and nor would I encourage this person to take up intenet marketing as a solution to making or running their own business.

That may sound funny but I would tend to say there is an alternative to offline business, here is a general bunch of starter videos should you wish to watch them, I would explain like any business venture there is good and bad and to make informed decisions and to obtain and to seek council on matters that are unclear, is good call regardless of business type.

Lastly encourage people to be successful is something I would leave well alone, and I say that because you or I can not control another persons direction in life per say, their motivation must come from within, I have spent to many years carrying peoples dead backsides before I learned that most people talk and do not take the walk.

What you could do here instead is offer to once they have viewed the videos and should they have more questions or if they would like further help that you would be there to answer or help where you could.

So in short unless this person was self driven it may not be as well intentioned as you would would hope just causing at best wasted time.

I have been known to be wrong and just throwing it out there.

      • go through atleast the latest 10 threads
      • focus your attention on those who have responded to newbies question and their signature links
      • select those signature links which are offering free services to newbies
      • get in touch with them or follow their advice and start earning your first dollar
      • when you earn your first dollar, you would have learnt something which will keep you going

A few hours a day would be awesome. I would make sure that you are budgeting 10 or more solid hours every week. Look through your schedule and find those hours. Treat those hours as you would hours on a job.

Now you have time to study the comments others have made before me and will make after me. Spend your initial time researching until you find a niche. Then, commit your resources into making it happen.

    Good luck!

It's what you do when no one is watching
that determines what you will be able to
    do when everyone is watching.
