I would recommend Amazon simply due to the sheer quantity of physical items you gain access to. I've never had them miss a payment, and their customer service has always been top-notch.

Having used all of them I would say Amazon is the easiest to use and the easiest to sell from because customers trust it. While places like CJ may have higher commissions I think you make up from Amazon's lower commissions with volume.

Hi Jim,

I would vote for Amazon if you're looking into promoting physical products.

At first impression you may think that Amazon products are not worth to promote because of their small commissions. However, keep in mind that Amazon is a trusted brand since year 1995. Being a trusted brand means more consumers are willing to make purchase with Amazon and so does your earning will increase.

Plus you don't just earn a commission on the product you are promoting, but you'll earn a commission for whatever products that consumers buy once they are at Amazon. For example, you might be promoting vacuum cleaners on your site and referred some customers to Amazon who ended up buying something else like a DVD. You'll still be paid from making those sales. In addition, Amazon is always on time with their payment and they have great customer service so you don't have to worry about fraud as well.

Another vote for Amazon here, there is such a wide range of products available. Depending on what niche you're in, there will be more or less products, but there is bound to be some physical products you can promote from Amazon on your blog.

I have been using amazon exclusively for promoting physical products so I have no feedback on other affiliates.

The thing I like most amazon is the relatively good conversion rate despite the 24 hour cookie. And the thousands of products available gives you endless choices of products to promote.

Just be reminded that products under the electronics category has a comm cap of 4%. And I think the most you can earn from high valued products under electronics and computers would be $25. But someone else may have to verify this as this is only coming from my observation based on the couple of laptop orders that went through.

Also, I have heard that Amazon and over $100 non-impulse items don't covert well (I guess because people have to think about it and come back to Amazon directly after 24 hours?), any experience with that?

To get around limitations of Amazon's 24-hour cookie and especially the inherent much longer purchase cycle of high end products, it is essential to build a funnel system and engage prospects with multiple promotions. IMO, this direct marketing method is perhaps the best practice in selling physical products for any affiliate program.

I agree with Goxbee. It's wiser to identify what products you want to promote first. These products should be those that you are passionate about as it is not easy to sell a product per se. However, if you are passionate about the product, you will work doubly hard for it to sell.

I've also tried Amazon. It's good to use because of its wide reach and name recall.

I prefer Share a Sale for a network, but it is normally worth spending an hour or so looking for affiliate programs run directly by the company producing/selling it. Since a lot of people don't seem to do this, it can give you an opportunity to promote products that most affiliates don't ever consider which makes it easier to rank for brand related keywords... of course this depends on your niche.

Amazon are trusted by millions across the world and do the selling for you once you have directed people to them. The number of unrelated sales i get is crazy...... had someone buy a massive outdoor trampoline a few days ago while most of my sites are entertainment, electronic or DIY related.

It helps though if your leads are in a buying mindset though rather than research mode as Amazon only give a 24 hour cookie unless you use the "add to cart" plugins/widgets.

I have to say the two biggest programs I know of for physical products are Amazon and CJ but I would say use amazon the commisson maybe a little lower but your get a better overall customer satisfaction and people will be more happy to deal with your site.

so someone gets $7 commisoin for a sale. Why would anyone sign up to your program. I would not. To do well, you need to give away much more than that. Try like 40% to 50% percent, you will get more commions more sales and more affiliates. 10% is not very good.

Is this really the case? I am looking into the possibilities of marketing via affiliate schemes but a 40% commission means selling at a considerable loss so therefore a non-starter. Not sure what the profit margins are in shoes but they are not that good in our market.

Surely it has to be Amazon. It may pay low commissions and have a short cookie expiration but there is simply no other program out there that has the reach and stature of Amazon.

Ebay would be a good competitor but they don't just let anybody and their dog sign up like Amazon do.

A lot of you mentioned Amazon which is great BUT what I suggest when you find a product you wish to promote through Amazon, first search for the affiliate program for that product on Google, compare the commissions, then go from there. Example if you came across a Reebok treadmill on Amazon which you can promote then go to Google first and search ''Reebok treadmill Affiliate Program'' and find the relevant program and check their commission ratings etc. Normally when you go directly through the brand to promote, the commissions are much higher which leaves more money in your pocket

  I think when you are looking for affiliate products there are many things to consider. There is far more to look at than just the commission percentage. Duration of Cookie. Does the affiliate program pay if the customer has already visited the Affiliate providers site? Does the affiliate provider have club discounts or the like, and if they are used, do you still get your commission.
  
  And really those are just a few to mention. Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but Amazon does have a window that if a buyer has visited Amazon in a designated time period prior to using your link to purchase, you do not get credit for that purchase.
  
  All of these things factor in to where you have to get your traffic interested in whatever product you are selling. You may need to focus more on planting the seed to the idea ( Pre Purchase ) and in some cases you can focus more on the ready to purchase phase.
  
  I personally do not use Amazon, for a number of reasons. the primary one was simply how I can manipulate a XML feed, and it was just not possible to do what I want with Amazon.
