Who's Still Old Schooling It eBay Style?

Recently my brother has been making a killing on eBay with products he sources cheaply but sells with a 800-1200% markup.

So all this has me wondering who still is using eBay and what your success is like?

I know im going to be jumping back onto the eBay train!

I did a piece of copywriting about 6 months ago for a guy who was absolutely making a killing using eBay Andrei.

Let me see if I can dig up his info from my email address, back in a few minutes.

        Best,

I come from the dirty murky pit known as eBay. I have a real love hate relationship with eBay. I'm also in the top 5% of businesses on eBay (aside from eBay Motors, in which I held a good title for a while for being a non-vehicle seller) by my own marketing data, and if I compiled all of the feedback for all of the accounts I've rotated within the past 5 years, I would probably be in the top 20.

Now nearly all of us have moved on. Every company I do consultation for, their first question is "How can we get off of eBay?" It's just the way it is.

Like your title says, eBay is in fact "old school" and was made popular by the emerging state of the internet in the late 90's, the interest of buying and selling goods online by the public, and then almost monopolistic control by eBay and PayPal for entry level users. Now even entry level sellers online are opening up websites within seconds and testing the waters with things like Google Adwords- and it's pretty cool to not be involved in a cut throat market place that doesn't really care about either the seller or buyer, or doesn't value you enough to actually invest the money they earn through rather high overall fees and promote your items.

eBay does have traffic, that's true, but they have very little traffic in comparison to what your website could have with simple SEO techniques and a little bit of a wait. eBay sure doesn't drive the same kind of traffic as it did 6 years ago which is pretty sad if you ask me. In fact, there are thousands of people that sell every day little items (IE: A past student of mine sells Super Nintendo Accessories and Games) for almost 350% more than what he buys them at. Where does he buy his inventory from? eBay.

Hmm...Ebay to me is hit and run trading. You find hot products selling, source cheap enough to make a good profit and sell it. 3-6 months later you have to keep rinse and repeating. You do this with multiple products realizing it will die off. No worrying about traffic creation as there is with E-commerce sites.

What you described above is E-commerce. It's a different biz module completely. And you don't think G isn't more of a neurotic master than Ebay/P.P. Whooaaah. they are the worse Big Brother EVER!

As for everyone asking "what is this product"....LOL what next? Asking for ban account details and access?

eBay is the main place to be for me, very, very, very profitable for both newbies and experienced sellers. My success rate on eBay is great, sometimes it even suprises me. I follow a set of rules to make sure I get the most bids and profit out of eBay.

Hope this helps and if you have any further questions feel free to ask

I sent the info directly via pm a couple of minutes later but for the rest of you, here is the same information...

This in my opinion is well worth it for the small outlay. This guy has a system to make lots of money on eBay nailed down to a tee.

It's called Pre Owned Profits and the blueprint lays absolutely everything out you need to know to start not only selling on eBay but also making a very good income.

Check it out by clicking on this link now...

I do a little bit of selling. Currently have 4 products I can source locally, all have about a $5 profit margin. Not a whole lot, but I walk by the place I buy them every day, so if I make a sale I stop in and buy one on my way home (the emails get sent right to my phone so I know if I make a sale even when I'm not home). Takes 5 minutes tops to buy it and then to stick it in an envelope when I get home. I usually sell 5 or 10 a week. Not making huge money by any stretch, but it's easy so I see no point in stopping.

I don't believe Ebay is to be regarded as Old School by any means.

A company website may be able to generate more than Ebay, but that doesn't mean to say that it's an insignificant channel that can be readily discarded.

There is a lot of money to be made by selling tangible good on Ebay and otherwise.

Yeah I think that people forget its a great starting ground. Almost any newbie can make money off of eBay within a few days and with almost no money down. Open starting The eBay account is free, paypal is free, you can find some old stuff around the home or garden where you dont have to outlay money for and if you really dont want to spend any money on postage you simply sell to someone in your city and try to cover the money for travel/fuel within your costs (set your starting bid at the price).

I made money on eBay well before anything else. As per Fajeeb, all those dudes now wanting out did in fact make their money on eBay, so yeah, maybe is not the best when you are turning over hundreds of thousands, but did it not get you there in the first place?

I know Kogan technologies right here in Melbourne which is a million dollar company started selling on eBay and now the own is buying space flights on virgin galactic! Amazing!

I did very well on ebay about 7 years ago and used to get 300-350% return on clothing I bought at wholesale. I have a mate that sells on ebay on the side and gets a 500% return and makes an easy $3-4k a month extra income.

              • The OP is in Australia. eBay Australia is a different animal from eBay U.S.

travlinguy: Check out the Spring Seller Update:

                eBay: 2012 Spring Seller Update

There have been many changes in the past several years. I no longer sell there. And I get great margins on my products; most things I can buy for a couple of bucks and sell for ten times that elsewhere but not on eBay. The jewelry category on eBay is dominated by people selling crap and seconds.

Search is broken, driven by Best Match. If your item doesn't come up on the first place in Search, you won't sell anything.

I was once a Power Seller on eBay. I sold a lot of books and personal development courses. Actually, I sold whatever was hot, mostly used items. I did very well for a while. eBay policies and fees changed a lot. Right about then my main supplier dried up so I went back to my first love, writing.

I did write an excellent guide on one aspect of my business that made a huge difference in a buyer buying my stuff over other listings. That little gem just got updated and will be going public again soon. If I could find the right product I might consider making another run at eBay.

I'm wondering what the OP means by "still old schooling it eBay style." What's the new, hip method of eBay? I'm all ears.

To be honest I've never looked eBay as a reliable means of earning good, steady income, but judging by the level of success that people have had with it I might test those waters in the future -- I'm always open to different methods
