Writing... Best way to get clients???

Hey fellow warriors I wanted to know if anybody had any suggestions for me. See I want to start freelance writing but I need some clients. I know that getting a warrior for hire thread is a good way, but I do not have the money to buy a thread. I am here ready to work, and looking for any help on how to get some clients so I can get to work.

Start writing on sites such as iwriter.com to get the money you need to post a ad in the warrior for hire section. You can also build a small little site and use your signature to promote it. Start giving out a lot of free tips and information on the forum so people will start to notice you. Be very active on the forum and you will have no problem finding clients.

Without any funds, you can still promote yourself and build a platform so that clients will come to you.

Decide on a specialty, and start a blog in that niche. Create a hire me page on that blog that has basic information about your services.

Link to the blog in your sig at WF.

Have a look at AllFreelanceWriting.com and MakeALivingWriting.com and learn about how to market yourself.

See if any of this stuff helps - there are loads of ideas here?

First, if you read through the following recent threads, you'll find many helpful observations and suggestions.

    http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...g-service.html

Secondly, if you want to think a little more about "the markets in which ones chooses to compete, as a writer", you might find some of these resources helpful/interesting (and most of the recommendations in them for "further reading" will also be pretty reliable ones, I think) ...

If you're a good and fast writer, then you can at least make $8/hr on odesk. Once you grow your client base, you'll probably be able to charge more and make more without a problem - assuming your writing skills are high quality.

      Ooh, I didn't know, sorry.

Let's hope that's very temporary, because it's an immensely valuable resource for people want to make money by writing ...

The site can be accessed again now, and yes, the advice in there is excellent and well worth checking out. Her mailing list is worth being on too - even if you're not looking for writing work.

I've just tried signing up to her mailing list, but when I click to add my email address, nothing happens. I'll keep trying - I'm always interested to read the views of fellow writers..

EDIT: The signup works fine now

I picked up a lot of work from vworker.com. You don't pay any fees and you can establish yourself as a writer. Design your own website. run ads in gumtree and craigslist.
Email all your friends and family and ask if they know anybody who needs your services.
They are all ways you can get clients to build your reputation.

You have to be patient and go through them and find the nuggets. There is a lot of crap and also some good stuff.
I found a client I have now had for over 2 years from Odesk.

Yes. It looks like you already got some promising leads through this thread alone. Follow them, and read ALL the threads Alexa linked for you above to get more tips on where to start for free. Then, use the money from the articles you write and purchase a Warrior for Hire thread. It was the single best investment I've made in my business thus far; I put one up and was making a full-time income within three weeks. Not a HIGH one, but living wages. It was awesome. Now, I'm slowly increasing my pricing structure until I can get where I would like to be financially.

Finally, go back through and edit ALL your posts for spelling and grammar before you do anything else. You can't offer writing services on a forum when your posts have errors. Your words are the products you're selling, so choose them wisely. When you become a content provider for Warriors, every post you make is an ad for your services.

John Coutts has a great method that many people have had success with.
You can read more about it here (post number 135): http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...clients-3.html

Also, consider creating a thread in the 'Warriors for Hire' section.

You could also take a peek in the 'Wanted - Members Looking To Hire You' section.

You may also be able to find some clients on any of these websites: www.constant-content.com, www.fiverr.com, www.textbroker.com, www.textbroker.co.uk, www.vworker.com, www.freelancer.com, www.elance.com, www.odesk.com, www.guru.com, and The Content Authority.

When you do find a client, make sure to do a good job and there is a high likelihood that he/she will come back for more.

You could also ask your current clients for referrals. While it may be awkward to ask, as long as you provide them with great content, I am sure that they will be happy to put in a good word for you to their business partners and friends.

If you start with some of the smaller payment sites (i.e. Fiverr) you can get some revenue generated so that you could post something in the warriors forum. You will also gain some experience and be able to put a portfolio together. The key is to not look at something like Fiverr as the long term, unless you figure out how to use that as part of a funnel to get clients in for more involved projects.

The list Alexa has laid out here is a great resource for you, and there is a lot of other awesome advice here on this thread.

When I first started out writing, I had no money well about £20 to be precise in my bank, but I bit the bullet and bought a Warrior's For Hire thread for myself. Then that week I made £70 through writing, my first week. It was also the first bit of cash I saw through working online, a magical feeling... Since then, I haven't had to go in my pocket to pay for anything online, as that first $20 I invested in a Warrior's For Hire ad has paid for everything, just reinvested what I earned after that original investment and that was it.

So if you're on the fence and think you're going to lose out here. You really shouldn't. My advice is to look at how other successful writers here on the WF are laying out their threads, and model it for yourself. Charge a low rate to start with, give out a few free review copies, and then build your business from there.

I sold my 500 word articles for $5 each at the start, and also gave out 5 free review copies, and still made £70 in my first week.

    Hope this helps.
