Anyone had success getting articles in newspapers?

Besides local?

I've successfully had articles in local newspapers. It's pretty easy since local newspapers are always looking for local news. Basically all you need to do is contact your local paper and tell them you are local and why your topic would be interesting to their readers.

But beyond local I haven't been able to get into other newspapers even though my topics are timely and not confined to any single area.

Has anyone had any success at this?

Any advice or suggestions?

    I actually have had some success with a couple clients, although they are national....(one was a call center company) the key is to contact the publishing departments directly and soliciting them yourself. You will get a lot of rejections though....but remember, writers and editors are always looking for new material...it really depends on how you spin it.

    I've had articles published in computer magazines (3).

    For the first one, I send them a quote. They bought it.

    For the second, they contacted me because of one of my books that were published in Denmark.

    For the third, I send a pressrelease - and they wanted an article.

    So be active, write blogs etc. If somebody from a newspaper or magazine is doing research and finds your name all the time, he will contact you.

    In addition to the above ideas, I can add using PRWEB to reach a lot of such organizations and get picked up by news outlets. I am doing just that for my re-launch, and will post a review of the process and success on my blog, later in the month.
