How do YOU make money online?

I was just reading a thread where someone asked who had a regular job and who was full time working at home. Over 90% said they were working online full time so I got to wondering HOW you made your money online?

Now, I'm not asking you to give away the cow with the milk but I AM curious what your main source of income is, i.e. affiliate marketing, adsense, your own product, membership sites, ghostwriting, what?

I will go first and tell you that a lot of the money I made online was from my own travel product, selling PLR products and membership sites. How about you?

More than 90% of my income is from ClickBank, every month. I'm an affiliate, not a vendor, and I build my business by article marketing, list-building and email marketing.

I want to bring that proportion down (on the "eggs and baskets" principle) while continuing to increase the total, and am gradually adding some other things (also as an affiliate).

That and sending Thaddaeus T. Hogg monthly invoices for English lessons, natch ...

Goodness Alexa, you really are manhandling CB aren't ya? LOL!! COngrats on that.. lol, I was excited getting my 2nd affiliate sale this month (which was from a tweet that I had blasted to my 5,000+ twitter followers. lol! I assume you're doing most of your CB sales via your own sites and list building for those particular niches?

That said, I make my money online via the talent God has so graciously Blessed me with (forever humbled).. making and selling hip hop beats to rap artists and R&B singers. From this, I was able to also spin off another site to which I also make money selling sounds to people who make beats.. so I've got the market of those who need beats covered, and those who make them as well.

I also make some money (though I haven't completely focused on this project as I will soon) via selling an ebook I wrote on selling beats.

I make some money as well with Adsense, though I want to increase that as well, and then some bits of money via Clickbank occasionally.

Recent projects in the works will be to do a blog about our son, to which we will post lots of posts, optimize some of them, have CB HopAd ads on the site, some Adsense on the site, and promote affiliates related to parenting, child development, etc. (hoping this project to be a great one as we build more on it by simply blogging about our son).

Another project will be to create another ebook that I will make targeting women (and men too if they choose) and assisting with saving money.

And another project or blog I should say that will serve similar to the blog of our son, only this one will focus on hip hop as well.

Trying to corner different avenues and make money from multiple baskets... though I still need to get my Clickbank doing a lot better soon. Lol!

My income is pretty much all residual stuff at this point.

I built a list of 350k or so that was mostly people seeking credit cards who had decent credit. Now, I just mail them balance transfer offers with cards that have 0% interest for a period of time. I get a nice commission each time people switch CC to avoid interest. It's kinda a nice little thing.

I also get a check from a few sites I sold a few years back. That would probably be enough to at least buy my roman noodles. With a few crackers on a good month.

Then another main source of my income is from years of building up micro niche hosting companies with partners. I fronted the money and the "know how", and they did they work. Then, I would sell the company to them outright "on time" with interest of course. So I have a lot of recurring income coming in from stuff I did years ago.

    Alexa is one smart cookie.

I have 3 membership sites and sell clickbank products fulltime as well.

listbuilding works very well if you are selling clickbank products and preselling well.

It is alot about testing and getting the right traffic, PPC, article syndication, blogging, solo ads. But its is very lucrative for me. As soon as I started building lists, and building lists of all my buyers and segregating these lists, I quit my daytime job and went fulltime. My whole life and income skyrockted...and it was at that point I felt like I had found "IT" or the "SECRET SAUCE"

As they say the money is in the list. That is VERY VERY TRUE. Also in the relationship you have with them also.

Serious If I was a bum on the street and had to start again I would start by building a list, and creating value for them. That is how you will win this game I think.

My main income comes from buying and flipping established websites. I look for underpriced sites on Flippa and then make them better.

While the sites are gaining visitors, I get my income from Clickbank, Adsense, Maxbounty, Amazon, etc.

I build websites, monetize them however possible (preferably with affiliate offers) and let them generate more or less passive income. Looking to start buying sites too but yet to buy the first one - not so easy to find good ones that are not overpriced.

Over last 13 years I've run the gamut.
I began by selling banner ad space on my first website, then moved over to affiliate marketing.

I also do quite a bit of freelance writing. Because my education field is rather specialized, I've been able to land a couple very lucrative ghostwriting jobs. From there I bought a few rental properties which provide the bulk of my bread and butter now. (So I guess this doesn't count as online does it?)

I still promote several affiliate programs (Clickbank and CJ) and I'm spreading my wings into CPA marketing. I just started with CPA, but I love it so far. I don't know why I waited so long.

Building assets = sites that generate 100% passive income.

Im not interested in providing services. Been there done that. You stop working, the income stops. Not for me. May as well have a regular job.

Unlike Alexa, Im a vendor. I create and sell my own products. Im slowly learning how to accommodate affiliates though (thanks to some colourful discussions here)

There are various ways to bring in passive income. I just recently learned a lot about CPA which can be very rewarding if your like Kenster I get most of my income from my day job which I refused to quit just yet. Ebay is great (once a powerseller until they became strict) Affiliate marketing like Clickbank, places like offervault is good and just started CJ. Having my own websites that offer SEO services and of course adsense. Plenty of ways to diversify

Even though my main intention was to sell my own ebooks, I’m mainly making money by providing a service (a professional translation) because most people want what is fast and doesn’t require any work from their side. Everybody is tired and everybody is looking for simplicity online.

I'm also selling my ebooks, but the real money is coming from fast translations for the public.

Squidoo is helping me too; my lenses are sending traffic to my websites and to my blog. I have created only 75 lenses, what is not enough, especially because my field is mental health, and not internet marketing. For me the online battle is many times harder than it is for internet marketers…

I’m making some money from building Squidoo lenses, and I even started selling Amazon products through my lenses, while my main intention is to promote my work. I was surprised to see that I sold an Amazon product through a lens that was practically abandoned and had a high lensrank (the best lensrank is number 1. If your lens is higher than 85.000 you are not paid for this lens).

I also sold a camera that I was not promoting through my best lens, which is about nightmares. Nothing to do with cameras. However, Amazon pays you if someone enters in their site and buys whatever, even if they disregard the product that you are promoting at your lens, but they decide to buy something else.

I could make a lot of money through Squidoo if I had more time to create many Squidoo lenses, but I’m creating a lens each week or each two weeks when I’m too busy, and I’m not promoting anything, just writing good content.

    Good thread!

I'd been dabbling in AdSense and Affiliate Marketing before but I figured making money through AdSense is a very slow process and Affiliate Marketing just consumed all my day.

So I discontinued using them as my income sources because I value my time above all else... now I make money by selling my own services to offline businesses.

      Interesting observation, apurvmat.

You believe you value your time *more* when you're
selling your services than when you are not?

Here's food for thought my fellow young entrepreneur:

That's right. Also I do notice that some people tend to try all the methods that they heard of and gave up fairly quickly. I think the main point is to stick with one method and work hard on it with focus until one is successful with it.

I make money online by building websites that produce passive and residual income and add them to my portfolio both in a IRA and outside one. I monetize them in as many ways as possible including info products I make, affliate products with an e-commerce and retail store connect with the site, membership sites, email marketing, contextual ads, sell ad space, and offer one on one mentoring and coaching. I also buy undervalued websites and domain names improve them and sell them for quick cash. For years I have been producing income online. Like many others there has been a lot of up's and down's, but finally found the affiliate world. ClickBank, CJ, Pilmus, E-Junkie, Amazon and others.

The first effort was promoting Barnes and Nobles online. From 1987 till 1991 I was rated in their top 10 affiliate list. Then in 1997 I sold over 12K copies of Titanic VHS for CD Universe.

Due to personal reasons I really slacked off for a few years. But in 1998 I got back into the online marketing (IM) with an "online mall" and did a booming business. Now, I manage several blogs and web sites. Making a decent living, but nothing like the pioneer days.... Looking for the next breakout opportunity!

Love the graph. Funny, basically half the money on the net comes from telling people how to make money on the net. Rather circular.

Apprenticing oneself as a way to get started
In the old days if a guy wanted to be a silversmith or saddlemaker they did gruntwork for a silversmith or saddlemaker to learn the trade. Apprenticeship was a way of learning what others knew as opposed to going out and sticking a sign over the door announcing yourself as a professional despite an absolute lack of relevant experience.

That's pretty much the route I've gone. Right now my income from the net comes from managing others that provide content for very successful sites and related start-ups... or from doing content work for those sites myself. Not where I'd like to be in the long haul, I'd much rather own a string of high income sites... but it was a reasonably good way to slide into working on the net and has provided a chance to see how some well known web entrepreneurs do business.

I am working a bit to start a 3rd inconsistent income stream, to earn a little money just to cover the expenses of my business online. I am not having any profit yet from here.

    Regards!

This is a great thread...a good reminder that there are lots of ways to make money on-line.

I'm not full time. I started to run some numbers about how much I have made over the years on line and I was shocked. It was significant.

My income is spread around: adsense, amazon, clickbank my own products, advertising (banners and links), and making videos and websites.

I love the passive income through advertising.

At the moment, I been selling all my old clothes and re-selling on ebay.

This paid for my 2 year hosting, and domain name.

I sold adobe light room 3 on ebay and came up with $700 profit to buy my imac i3.

I`m promoting links for $10 a month to get free 2 year free hosting cost.
I`m currently writing squidoo lens and about to re-sell them on the squidu forum for $20

Btw, I dont bother trying to compete with gigs on freelance bidding sites, because its nearly impossible.

Focus your attention on community forums, like this forum and digital point and you should be fine.

At the same time: you should be starting a website, and try to aim a bigger goal. The smaller amounts of cash coming in, should sustain your will to continue your internet success.

    I hope this helps.

List building and then promoting affiliate products to them. I have some very high end and some very low end and some in the middle.

I get targeted traffic for my lists doing article syndication mostly, a little youtube marketing, lots of social networking (mostly automated but I respond to comments and such).

Got that pretty well running in 3-5 months and now am just testing out CPA offers and doing pretty good.

There probably is more stuff I forgot to mention but that is what comes to mind.

oh, yeah. I got hired offline to build a list for a company and get paid $100 per lead and $250 per new client.

Mostly writing, which I absolutely LOVE and do not find a chore as some writers do, thank goodness 80% of my writing involves writing website pages, the remaining 20% being articles for distribution, press releases and blog posts for Wordpress sites.

In addition to that, a portion of my income comes from Adsense, Clickbank and a few other affiliate programs. I also have the occasional sale of my own product. I definitely believe in diversifying

Adsense and Amazon sites mostly. I do a Fiverr gig to pay for other Fiverr gigs. Also, doing okay building local sites and selling leads with Scott Blanchard's BizLocal package. So far I've built and ranked a local tree trimming site and bulldozer/landscaping site.

      Hey MarvyDery,
I have a free gift offer that works well with several types of mailing list niches (especially the health niche). It converts at around 15-20%. PM me if interested.

All my money is coming from Adsense right now. I'm following the "Master one income stream first, then move on to master a new one..." mentally.

I used to jump around and get nothing done. I'm probably going to move into CPA after I get more Adsense sites up.

SEO mainly. Hire VAs that can do the job. Sometimes cheap VAs doesn't necessarily mean they cannot do quality work, I evaluate and screen them extensively so that will make me save lots of money.

I am new in the business IM, I initially
    selling the site on Flippa
and I get a lot of money there
    in my opinion
because I was once just an office worker

I understand to be a good IM
should have own products, like ebooks, video tutorials, selling theme, selling graphic design etc.
or if you do not have the product
    you can become affiliate marketing

    Regards,

    SERVICES!

No passive income yet for me...I admit to being an affiliate maketing dabbler, getting better as I go along ... but by far my main income is from offering services -- i.e. doing voiceovers.

And I am delighted to say I get a huge percentage of my customers from right here on the WF! Thanks folks...

Clickbank and a little bit O' Amazon. I'm working on moving away from affiliate marketing altogether and doing product creation instead. Not eBooks either, more like teaching myself computer programming...

    Fun.

I consider that SEO is the main way of earning money because the higher the quality of the articles which you write, the better the money you get for your job. I think most people have earned a lot through article writing because it is the main souce of online income in the current era.

The majority of my online income is through affiliate sales. I do the majority of that with Amazon review sites, and sites built around cpa offers. I also do a bit with adsense.

At the end of last year I started to dabble a bit in product creation, and I also started focusing on list building more.

Joined the WF about 3 months now, and these is how I make money online:

    1) Product launch (only WSO for now, going over to clickbank soon)..

    2) Niche sites - Pros: Generating Passive Income ......... Cons: Passive Income only enough to buy me 6 cans of beer and on a good month I could probably get an additional pack of chip.. that's all!

    3) Building up my list (only buyer for now) and have only made 1 affiliate sales so far by promoting another WSO

Wanna concentrate on more list building for sure..

    4) SEO and website design service (offline) - now this is pretty good money.. but like what John Romaine said it requires work, if I don't work, there will be no income for me..
This is not something I want either, have to look for different alternatives..

    God bless,
    Jeremiah
