I love press releases but I am not a big proponent of sending out via a Bot in one go. Buy or Rent a Bot that has a drip feature. Don't be in a rush.

Having said that, do send out press releases as they matter.

That is an amazing attitude. You can't afford to use a legitimate press release service, so you will have to resort to using a spam bot.

Has it ever occurred to you that:

1) You can submit press releases directly to reporters via email..

2) You can submit to the same sites that spam bot submits to for free. Their TOS prohibits bots, but it allows humans to submit press releases for free.

Why resort to spamming just because you can't afford a paid service that plays by the rules? Why not just play by the rules yourself instead?

The best press release websites seem to always be the ones that charge money for submittal.

We only use PRWeb. Yes it costs a little, but they have
been around for many years.

Their trust factor is high. If you know your product
inside and out, could be a match made in heaven.

I have gotten good results with *********************** in the past and they have a high alexa rank (3160). Also, an old press release of mine with prlog.org still is at number 3 for a competitive term. It's important to read each of their requirements because I know certain press release sites require the e-mail address to be the domain that you use as your website.

I agree with all the comments which suggest that quality of quantity is the best option. Great move though, Ben. I haven't had a chance to try your software but will do as soon as I get a minute.

Generally though press releases have never lent themselves particularly well to mass submission. What I mean is that there have never been many submitters competing for your dollar. I remember one called Media Magnet which I never bothered with. I have Pressbot which is good because it doesn't claim to submit to 100s of press release sites. They are carefully chosen and just about worth its dollar for the low price.

But the main emphasis should always be on quality content. Offline you have to get past a gatekeeper i.e. a journalist who will simply bin your effort if it's garbage. Online the press release sites will emphasis relevance. Even f you invest in PR Web, a press release which is badly written or unclear what's publicising won't have as much exposure than a concise and closely targeted one.

Bit of a tip. Many journalists using Twitter are reading headlines and first lines of paragraphs. If you can write a compelling headline which is genuinely leading to a newsworthy story on your bit.ly link you stand a chance of combining online activity with offline coverage. Obviously much depends on your Twitter friend profile but many journalists doing specific research have created hashtags. All you need to do is find out what they are looking for and sling them a compelling first line. This the best way of doing it rather than sending them out at random, because you are meeting demand rather than being seen as a spammer (even though you are not).

I'm a user of Incansoft products and have to say, I like the software products I've purchased from them.

I've had PressBot for quite a while now and I'm just about to use it (to submit a quality PR that is) ... and where I'd like some advice is, how many PR sites should I submit to at any one time - I presume I shouldn't tick off all those in the software?

I'm after a natural look to my submissions ...

Also, should I spin each PR I submit?

$100 per month per PR is awesome.

I second his first choice - PrLog It works better than just about any of the others, especially if you buy the upgrade, but even without it.

I'm also using both of these, but they seem less effective than Prlog - still if you want extra coverage, I'd go for it.

Ever since PRweb has raised its prices, I've been boycotting it. I used to use it - especially for a project where the leads HAD to be from the US. It worked for that, just not terribly well. Most of the other sites attract a much larger proportion of international leads, which works great for IM stuff.

One site - free press release dot com has raised its prices a great deal, and the truly free version is pretty much worthless. It used to be my go-to place, but now I stopped using it.

P.S.: I'm not a fan of using bots - a very select few high quality releases at high quality sites are WAY better than flooding the web with press releases in less high quality places. It's the same as with article marketing. And you know what Google thinks about mass submissions, don't you...
