What qualities/criteria do you look for in a good paid Web Host?

I'm looking a for TOP quality paid web hosting account. One where I can host all of my sites, preferably.

What qualities do you look for in a PAID web host?

My thoughts were:

1. Uptime
2. 24/7 support including tele.
3. USA based (I'm in USA)
4. Speedy servers
5. They own their own data center
6. They offer ability to scale smoothly/quickly from shared to VPS to
dedicated when needed.
7. Five star Technical support (i.e., expertise )

This means most hosts are out (they don't won their own data center and if you've used common hosting services you probably know about typical technical support levels).

What are your criteria and have you found any hosts which meet mine above?

Please don't suggest Hostgator

I started out like everyone else with Bluehost and Hostgator, and then a few months ago I moved everything to ServInt. I'm not a tech genius, in fact I'm a tech dumbass, but I love ServInt.

I can't really go off about specifics because I don't know what any of it means but all I know is that Bluehost kicked me off once I started getting a lot of traffic to some of my sites, and I knew that several big bloggers use ServInt so I went with them.

The biggest thing is their support- they will fix/help with all kinds of stuff that Bluehost used to tell me "we don't do that".

Boy have I heard that story before. People leaving Bluehost, Dreamhost, & Hostgator (& other 'popular' hosts) for more reliable web hosting services. Thanks for the tip about Servint. I've heard good things about them before, and will check them out.

My experience and I emphasize MY experience is HostGator does.

There was a time when I thought I'd never say that and I thought HostGator was just a band wagon that everyone was jumping on.

However, after I got disappointed by some "higher end" hosting companies, I decided to try HostGator and I have no complaints at all.

What I look for in a hosting company is much the same as you. I look for reliability trust and support. The hosting that best suits me is host gator, and I cannot offer up a alternative to them, so I shall suggest anything. Interesting post and look forward to hearing some of the replies as it is always good to have alternatives and backups just in case.
