autoresponders and spam folders

I'm new to email marketing but while testing my autoresponder I noticed that one of the welcome emails for one campaign were going straight into the spam filter on my Hotmail address.

The emails are being sent through iContact 'from' an existing email on my domain. It doesn't include any common spam words.

Does this mean that every Hotmail user is going to get my welcome email to their spam folder? Will all of the emails go there unless they mark them otherwise?

Could be that this happens to every email for a while. I've heard rumors that this can happen to new domains... not sure how true that is. Certain email providers seem to treat mail from the different email list services differently.

Haven't heard much about hotmail, though.

You'll want to let users know that your emails may end up in spam. Give them a compelling reason to mark them as not spam.

There are thousands of variables that could be causing what your experiencing and many of them are totally out of your control

The first thing to know is that even if it goes into your spam folder today, it may not next week. This stuff changes on an almost daily basis.

Email deliverability is something that is far from an exact science.

Cheers for the replies guys. I'll stick up a message about checking the spam filter and test it on a few other emails.

Only getting a 25% open rate so far so I'll have to work on improving that as much as I can.
