If you type "Search Engine" into Google - Google.com is #4!

Just struck me as strange.

Wikipedia is #1 and Dogpile is #2.

Their own site comes in at #4.

  • My guess is that Google doesn't think it's too important to hold the top rank on their own search engine for those key terms -- you're already using it after all

      Well, maybe because Google thinks that people will just type in Google.com directly in browsers' address bar.

  • Because Google is the best, unlike Bing, and they want you to get the best search results

    Bing is greedy and doesn't want you to use Google, so when you search for "search engine" on bing you won't find Google there either.

  • In my country - the Google is not listed on the first page for "search engine" at Google. Funny!!!
  • They don't need to be anymore.

    People don't even say search the internet anymore - its Google this, or Google that, or use Google. I expect their SEO guys could probably take a nice long holiday until they are needed again!

    Perhaps they should build some really high quality content, then hope people link to them in order to rank higher???
  • If I'm google, I don't give a s*** about pea like this.. I know I'm the main search-engine, and I know that you're using me.. that's all I care about + making sure the search-engine is always running well..

  • Well at least they're unbiased in search results with regards to their own ranking. But it really doesn't affect them much, since you are already using google to search- so no big deal to them.
  • Google should blast some profile backlinks.
  • There really should be an article in the top spot:

    Top 10 Search Engines..

    Those kind of articles should steal top spot a lot more than they do.
