Most Profitable Niches?

I was just wondering, to all the successful affiliate marketers out there, what are the most profitable niches?

I am looking to begin design of a new site, and I was wondering what are some popular and also profitable niches that visitors are likely to be looking to purchase products from.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Depends on how you are planning to make money on it. Like if you are using adsense, then weight loss niche would be the most valuable one. Its also a great niche for selling products, as long as your traffic is targeted.

Im Niche is also valuable when the traffic is the right, as is all niche. And people really like buying products from weight loss and im niches.

Just get targeted traffic, then all niches rock!

      The most popular niches?

I'd have to say the top 3 would be (in no particular order):

      1. Weight Loss

      2. Make Money (especially Internet Marketing)

      3. Dating and Relationships

Those are your three biggies. And there are tons of sub niches to dig into with each one.

These are three niches that I feel will NEVER get saturated...you'll always have new consumers.

This is so true. You can never be wrong with these niches if you know what you are actually doing from the ground up.

Some great advice here! I also think that these are some of the biggies also Online Gambling could be regarded as quite a good earner.

Anyone out there have an affiliate site in the weight loss niche?

I was thinking of creating one. To anyone with experience in this niche, have you had success selling products? It seems like a good niche for sales to me, since all targeted traffic that you receive is going to be looking to lose weight, and open to the idea of purchasing a product that they believe will help them do this.

    Thoughts??

Specifically the niches he mentioned as the "big three" are health, relationships, and making money.

Basically the fulfillment of the bottom of Maslow's hierarchy of needs.

Well, no need to look far and think too much here.
Thinking like a person is enough. What do all people in the world care about?
Having sex(adult niche ), looking good (weight loss, exercise dvds's) having sex with good looking people ( dating niche ),being able to have sex ( pharmacy/health niche) and of course there are the best ones which are consuming niches- like cigarettes, alcohol, perfumes, clothe, bags, etc etc.

There are tons of profitable niches out there, but profitability isn't the only thing you should consider. You should pick a niche that's both profitable AND one that you have an interests in because you're gonna have to work in it a while to make some good money. With that said, here's a short list.

    dating

    weight loss

    make money

    toys

    electronics (gadgets)

    video games

    gardening

    learn Spanish

    sports (like golf)

    learn guitar

    pet care (like dog training)

    quit smoking...

    Good luck,

Just about everything mentioned so far is a market, not a niche. The whole theory behind niche marketing is that it's easier to break into a sub market or niche rather than a major mega market like health, fitness, finance and all the rest. Think of it this way. Health is a huge market. Dieting is a very large market within the health market. The grape seed starvation diet is a niche within the dieting market.

It would be silly to try and compete in the health market but a new Internet marketer could do well with a smaller niche like an obscure diet. Good luck.

I would stay out of all of these niches listed below as a newbie. They may be profitable, but are they "reachable" by you??? Probably not.

    1. Weight Loss

    2. Make Money (especially Internet Marketing)

    3. Dating and Relationships

    4) Travel

This is what I see as the number one reason why newbies do a lot of work and then months, even years later they are wondering why they are not making any money.

If you want to make more money, faster and easier, go after a niche that is both profitable AND reachable by you in the short run.

The difference is whether you make money in a few hours to days or if you make money in a few months, years or never.

As for suggestions of some niches that YOU can really make some money from right now with the same or less amount of work and effort.....

Do the research and find something that has over 2500 exact global monthly searches in google keyword tool and under 25000 results when you search the same word or phrase in Google in quotes.

If that keyword also has sufficient affiliate products for sale and several active forums that allow signatures then you have the perfect niche to put up a high converting squeeze page, build a list and promote affiliate products to.

Once it is up, make a lot of posts with your sig on those forums to get started and then do article syndication, youtube and social networking.

Once I figured this out, I can usually get a sale within a few hours of putting up the page even when it isn't indexed in Google yet.

    Good luck.

This is a great post, but the issue for newbies is that experts always tell you what niches NOT to target (too competitive) but never say which ones to target... could you actually give a few examples or niches a new IMer can target?

      This ^^^^ exactly.

And it's the key point of the thread
      .

What, exactly, do you mean by "most profitable" ...

One question is "Which niches are the ones that, overall, produce the most profit for their affiliates?" (Those are going to be niches like many of those mentioned above, in which some very longstanding pro/superaffiliates are earning millions after their lengthy years of learning-curves, business development, all the experience and skills they've acquired, and so on).

A second question is "Which niches are the ones in which I'm likeliest to be able to make a decent amount of money?".

These are two totally, completely, entirely, radically different questions.

The answers to them aren't just "not going to overlap all that much".

They're going to bear no relation to each other at all - they might even be completely opposite and mutually exclusive.

Failure to appreciate this point is what leads many people astray and in part accounts for the famously "high failure-rate".

Honestly, I always found that chasing after niches has never worked. For example, when I wrote for eHow (wow, it sounds weird saying that name now) I tried writing niche how-tos and they never made any money.

Then I wrote a simple article about writing in the second person, which apparently few people wrote about, because I was an English major and I just learned about it. That was my best article. It made over $100. My second best was about Kingdom Hearts 2 when it came out (wow, another name from long ago), which only made $20.

I've learned that being super-concentrated on niches often doesn't yield the best results.

I understand the concept that it is going to be very difficult to compete in the largest niches because you are going to be competing for sales against people that have been doing it for years and could be considered "pros".

With that being said, what do people feel are some relatively untapped niches that are still open for the taking? Basically, a solid niche to promote products in that is not completely over saturated by everyone and their brother trying to make a buck in that niche.

I think you would be better learning the basic fundamentals before diving in. If you cant even generate your own ideas or do some keyword research then you are not building your business on a solid foundation. Learn about IM and the niche before you jump in and ultimately make a ton of mistakes and fail.

I have done a little research on another niche that should prove to be very profitable. With so many smokers in the world, and almost all of them wishing they could quit, you could make a website or blog or forum for people trying to quit smoking to go on and offer tips and words of wisdom to help other people in the quest of trying to give up the nasty habit. You could promote affiliate products like the ecig and nicorrette patches to make money from the site.

with affiliate marketing alot of research needs to be carried out...

if you think along the lines of business, and research on what people are searching for, from physical to information products you can build an affiliate business around those markets.

the top ones to my experience are:

      1. weight loss
      2. make money
      3. trading
      4. dating

there are loads more, when it comes to physical products do some research there are tons of profitable niches, but you have to think along the lines of a customer and a business mind.

I doubt you have the knowledge of how to create this kind of course that can make you a TON of money but... a really profitable niche is the CCNA niche.

CCNA stands for "Cisco Certified Network Associate". You get this certification, and you can land a nice job making $30k-$50k (entry level) working on, building, and maintaining computer networks.

I have my CCNA, and it's how i got my job working at this large corporation that has 70 locations across America.

But like i said... it's very profitable, but you more than likely you won't have the info to build a product like this. CCNA is an advanced computer networking certification to acquire.

WHy not try media buys? find a good gravity product from clickbank, take a banner ad and find a media buy company to submit it to sites for $.05 /click or even $.50/ click.$100 @ $.05 / click = 2000 clicks even if only 2% buy with a profit of $40 thats a wopping $1,600. this is only an example but for this their is no website building, back linking, auto responders or all that other jarggin. What do you think?

Do the research and find something that has over 2500 exact global monthly searches in google keyword tool and under 25000 results when you search the same word or phrase in Google in quotes.
That's a race to the bottom.

It's solid advice in many ways...

But it falls apart in two ways:

    1) Google's "competition results" fluctuates wildly and inconsistently. I once built a dedicated database of about 2 million keywords complete with google competition level data, etc. To my great surprise, for about 40% of the keywords, the comp data would change literally daily.

And not a little. Some keywords would have "40,000" comp's on Tuesday, and then show "29,560,000" on Wednesday.

No rhyme or reason. Try it for yourself with a sample size of 10 keywords or more, over the course of a week. You'll soon see why the # of competitors argument is pretty much moot.

    2) Because the number of competitors has no bearing on anything. The ONLY thing that matters is who's on the first page, for your primary target kw.

Wikipedia? Root domain / homepage targets? Exact-match domains? Big brands? Blackhatters? Web 2.0 props? YouTube vids? Inner pages / Deep pages?

Look for page 1 SERPs where there's no exact-match domains ranking, where there's a few inner pages, and where it's not full of brands.

If that's what you see - regardless of competition numbers - it's totally doable.

    With time, and elbow grease.

I actually look for EMDs as one of the metrics to identify relatively easy niches. Works best for 3+ word keywords. Finding an EMD in the top 10 for those kind of keywords is usually gold.

And if they turn out to be Xfactor sites... it's a sure thing.

I guess I should clarify it by saying an EMD is an actual competitor, since they are gunning for that exact keyphrase.

People are obsessed with Google's # of results, which you and I know means nothing.

I agree that where one EMD can rank, so can another

Still, it's harder to outrank and EMD than it is to outrank deep content.

I'm sure this will probably be repeated numerous times in this response thread. . .so let me beat the proverbial dead horse.

ALWAYS look for the so-called "evergreen" niches. These are the ones that everyone either looks for and/or advertises in.

DON'T, DON'T, DON'T try to come up with your winning formula yourself. It's a noble idea, but it's a waste of time.

I think it is what people spend more money in real life, so the price of ads will be hight in internet too. If you look at standart family budget, the spend mostly on:

    1. Mortgage/buying house
    2. Car insurance/buying car
    3. Sometimes they travel for theirs vacations
    4. Daily shopping
    5. Loans

My thoughts. It is far more profitable to dig for keywords with a good amount of searches and little competition and dominate the niche.

Most newbies just jump right into those markets already mentioned that are highly saturated and attempt to compete with all of the big players in those markets. Most of them fail at it and become discouraged.

There are many niches to go for and you can make them profitable without trying to dig your way to the top through all the biggest players in the industry.

Profit is what you get out - what you put in. While there is a lot of money in some of these markets/niches, there is a lot of competition too. I like to find less competitive niches where I can have a site ranking in a few weeks. Then later branch out into more competitive markets when the site has enough authority.

The main ones are probably making money online, dating, and exercise and weight loss.

If your not sure, you can check out amazon and clickbank to see which products are selling. On amazon, make sure you go to the books department and see what the top sellers are about.

Right now, one of the best selling books on amazon is about dinner recipes. There is also the "17 Day Diet Cookbook".

Just keep looking around amazon and clickbank and see what you find. Good luck!

PS. Personally, it looks like the dieting niche is doing extremely well right now, so I would go with that.

The most obvious markets usually have the most competition. There is the argumant that, "thats where the money is", but I've found it harder than less competitive niches.

I also think only a % of your sites and markets are going to do well, anyway. Depending one niche is tough to make it.

Unfortunately I can't just give away my most profitable niches like that! Anyone that has given them away has probably got an established domain, years of solid backlinks, and is no longer worried about their competition reading the thread and taking their rank. I will say that the health industry has converted the best for me, but I can't go into specifics.

When I first started I was told

    1. Making money online
    2. Losing weight
    3. Dating and Relationships

In addition, subniches around any other major event in people's lives: e.g. having a baby, moving house, getting married, etc. Things that people will always be doing no matter what.

I love questions like these "what are the most profitable niches?" because they always get my brain popping around like bacon frying in a pan. The truth...

      Drum Role Please......

The most profitable niches are the ones that bring in the most cash.

The best niches that are the ones that bring in the most cash with the least amount of work

But, on the other hand, I've also found some of the easiest "people" to market to and profit from are the ones right in my own back yard. No, I'm not talking about the offline marketing niche. That's a whole nother story.

For instance, I'm in the trucking industry and although truckers are a stubborn lot to market to I know first hand that they'll give up the cash for the right product. From that point it's just a matter of going onto more and more advanced products to sell to them.

Another favorite is localized niches such as State run memberships. For example, If I was in North Dakota (which I just happen to be at the moment) I'd probably consider a ND Cowboy/Cowgirl site or ranchers association type membership. Whoa... imagine the possibilities with that one...

      * Offer online services to them
      * Offer Online Shops such as clothing or supplies (could be affiliate programs I suppose)
      * Offer a newsletter for current events and collect advertising fees
      * Collect advertising fees onsite
      * Offer a paid roundtable
      * Promote business books for online/offline marketing

yeah, there's a market there. And North Dakota is a big freakin state (I know because I just drove across it).

The trick is to use your imagination and think outside the box. While Joe Blow is running "just another city guide site" you go to the heart of the people. What's the "Big Idea" in your area?

I know Wisconsin is the home of Harley Davidson but is there a united HD Club site in that area?

New Jersey is known as the Garden State. But is there a united state wide gardening site for them?

And Texas... Christ on a cracker, you could run a whole collection of sites for that state.

Just look out your window and what do you see?

What's the local news telling you?

Colleges offer a wide variety of idea busting opportunities.

Of course, you could always just follow the crowd and do like everyone else is doing. This requires little effort for the most part but getting great results requires you to work harder then everyone else.

Well, the bacon is just about done. But there's my answer to your question and I'm gonna stick to it!

Well, if you're looking to build mirco niche sites, I would strongly NOT recommend these niche:

    1) MMO, IM,
    2) Weight Loss
    3) Dating

You should try out niche like:

    1) Ancient History
    2) UFO
    3) Theology

Just my personal humble opinion.. MMO, IM, Weight loss, dating will take you ages to get ranked in google

Personally, I prefer to do what the MINORITY are doing..

(offline for example: people are rushing in to buy mutual funds, stock etc.. I would rather buy gold, silver, oil, vice versa when people are buying commodities)

      Jeremiah-

What you are saying makes sense. With so much competition in those "Big 3" niches that everyone wants to compete in, it's very challenging to get on the first page of a Google search.

Any thoughts on some other less crowded niches that could be profitable?

All of my niches are monetized using the same marketing model, article syndication. Essentially, it's as basic as writing about these topics and targeting real people who read these type of articles. Taking this model and scaling it up to include the virtually unlimited potential publications available makes this a formidable marketing presence within even the most intensely competitive niches.

For example, consider the UFO topic as mentioned earlier in this thread and which also happens to be among my most lucrative niches. My tightly researched, unbiased articles are syndicated in hundreds of targeted ezines/newsletters, blogs/websites, and offline publications such as professional journals, popular magazines, etc. The "resource" box at the bottom of each article directs readers to my website for additional information and a preliminary product promotion from Clickbank. Buyers almost always sign up to my autoresponder, which further promotes incrementally higher end products.

The most profitable niches are usually the most competitive as well, such as mortgage loans, insurance, etc. Even though these might be the most profitable ones, they may be the most difficult to market because of the competition. This means the most profitable one for you may be something that you will make less per sale/lead, but will be able to put in front of the consumer much easier.

Provide your clients with a great service and concentrate on this. I think if you go into something with the sole purpose of making money, then you are more likely to fail.

I agree. We are all here to make money...but personally I have been miserably "well-off"....and happily "broke". The difference being the work I surrounded myself daily.

With that being said...I have had some good "luck" putting together products based on current trends....ghosthunting niche when those shows came about, tips on getting your reality show. The only issue....even when putting out great content is that these subjects fade after some time.

Of course as you build a little capital you can make a bit of a dent in the evergreen niches mentioned by the other warriors in this thread.

SirStanley is right...surround yourself with something you love...find a way to make peoples' lives better....everything else false into place!

The insurance niche is a very profitable one. It also helps that i used to work in this industry so that i do have quite a bit of knowledge of the niche.

    My view is :

If you have worked previously or have experience in a particular niche, it will always be profitable in one way or the other. You'll have a much greater head start and much knowledge you can get packed into your sites to end up making them profitable for yourself.

Yeah, agree with travlinguy that a lot of suggestions are markets and not niches.
Personally, I like to see what is being sold at the minute, and do my research that way.
I visit the 'For Dummies' book range (cliche but still good), as they have hundreds of books out there. Some are based on niches within markets and you would be surprised at how obscure they are! They would not make the book without extensive market research.

    A very interesting thread indeed.

Some hot markets with many sub niches have not been mentioned in this thread:
Sport, sub-niche golf, some su-niche of which golf swing, golf clubs, golf women, etc.
Other good sport niches: martial art, walking, motorcycles, and so on.

    Seasonal niches: Christmas, halloween, etc.

Popular interest and hobby niches: gardening, woodworking, etc.

As already mentioned, magazine titles are are an extremely good indicator; if there is a magazine title on a topic, that is a good one to go for.

Also check Amazon or Clickbank or the Idiot series of book titles.

And do check Google trends to determine there is interest in the niche in question.

What is also important to ascertain is the existence of competition and of commercial intent.

Spending time on research first saves time, money and frustration.

Be cautious about the "make money" market right now. The FTC is going crazy about it right now. Lots of people losing their fortunes.

The biggest markets are pretty easy to find, as there is always offers in them.

    - insurance
    - debt
    - payday loans
    - mortgage
    - beauty
    - make money

others too, but these are the best large ones in affiliate marketing (I may be missing a couple but these are the main).

Don't forget that the fastest way to get clicks and sales is to genuinely help someone with a problem that is a "hair on fire" problem. In other words, not just looking for information only, but looking for a remedy for something that they think about several times a day.

    Hope that helps!

Would you mind posting the link to one of your "niche" sites?

I have always thought that the porn industry could be extremely profitable, but just never knew how to go about entering it.
