Do I have to be connected to the net at all times while producing my videos?

And does this consume a lot of bundle/internet usage data?

    Yes, you have to be connected to access the site and to put the material for the videos together.

    Your internet usage involves uploading pics and video clips, and then downloading the finished video to your computer. (I don't think that amounts to "a lot" of usage, but depends on your perspective.) The process of actually creating or rendering the video is done on Animoto's servers, and doesn't count against your internet usage.

    I believe so, the whole process is executed on their server - But the last rendering bit may be ok with you logged off (once you have selected your images, and sound files, etc).

    Haven't actually tried this to confirm it though, but I suspect it will work because from memory it emails you when it's done anyway?

    You have to be connected to the Internet since the video production and ssubmission is done on the Animoto servers.

          Here's an alternative to Animoto that I've been meaning to try:

          ProShow Web - Instant Online HD Slideshows - ProShow Web (no affiliation)

          It has a desktop version as well as an online service.

            Hey Gail,

            Thanks for posting that. I looked at the sample videos and noticed some things Animoto lacks, apparently:

            -Real titles. As in a title in large text centered on the screen. You can make a text slide in Animoto but it looks like all the other text slides.

            -Zoom.

            -Spotlight effect. Would be really useful in product videos.

            -Fades. And a lot more.

            I've used Animoto almost since the beginning, but it's just too inflexible to be worth $39/month. Incremental improvements have been small, though I do like the new UI.

    Animoto seems like a good site to make IM videos. Too bad you need to subscribe to it. Is the songs of animoto good? If it is good to serve a background music then I think I'll pay for it.
