Accuracy of web valuation sites

I am thinking of selling my press release site, and I saw "worthofweb.com" mentioned here in another thread, so I ran my site name through and...it WAY overestimates how much traffic I'm making and how much money it's worth.

In fact, it said my website is worth $82,00-and change a year. HA HA HA HAH! I wish. I mean, if anyone wants to pay me that much, you know where to PM me! I'll throw in a couple of free, slightly used, unhousebroken chihuahuas, as an irresistable bonus.

The site gets good traffic and I make decent adsense money, but nowhere NEAR what that site estimates.

Is there a better way to get an idea of how much a website is worth? My website is a little different, because while I do have adsense on there, I make the majority of my money by providing services - as in, writing press releases.

I've sold a website once before, but that was strictly based on the adsense income and how long it had been makign that income.

I generally don't put much relevance to the data from these valuation sites. They are far from being accurate but they can quickly point out if a site is worth putting any interest into.

Well, hopefully that's a good sign then...it certainly said my website was worth a lot. I just suspect that it's not worth as much as the site claims, because the traffic and earnings estimates were way-overinflated. Unfortunately.

They are not accurate at all, so you shouldn't rely on them.

The problem is that they make up stats that may or may not be true and then give you some sort of valuation based off those made up stats. They pretty much pick a random number and give that number to you.

I am indeed wondering where the heck they get those numbers from. They think I make $116 a day in adsense, for instance. I don't; I'd never try to mislead anyone into thinking the stats on that site are true.
But I can't believe they LITERALLY make up the numbers. There must be something that they're based on!
Are there any of those web valuation sites that are worth considering?

      No.

The best way to get an accurate value of your website is to do some research. Look at places where websites are sold, Flippa for example. Compare the traffic and income of your sites to the sites being sold there and you should get a price range of how much your site is worth.

Yeah, nothing's easy, is it? My site's a little different in that I rank really well for certain keyword phrases and I get good traffic, but I'm using it to sell services...so I don't know how well those types of sell. I guess I'll just have to do a bunch of research and then give it my best guess.
