I must be honest, I really dislike Facebook

I hope this post doesn't qualify as calling anyone out but I have something to get off my chest.

Dislike is not powerful enough. Let's try abhor. That's it!
I absolutely abhor Facebook...Twitter too.

There...now I've admitted it.

I'm from the old school and probably so retro, I'm resistant but I don't care if you're at Applebee's with your BFF. In fact I wonder how much you could really like your BFF if you're on Facebook while you're out with them. That's kinda rude, no?

I have a personal fb page, just to keep my relatives off my back and professionally I've done fine without it. But during some epiphany (stupor) I decided to "kick it up a notch" and incorporate social media into my marketing strategy. This is a brilliant idea right up until I have to do it.

As a result, my fanpage/tweets contain only the random ramblings of a dejected marketer or links from other sites. Yea me!
Please understand, this is NOT a technological barrier. I know HOW to do it, I just don't like to and I'm frustrated that in order to grow a business in this decade, I almost have to.

Does anyone have any experience outsourcing their social media status updates? Can anyone offer any tips?
I don't want to have to micromanage this and I know celebrities outsource their social media duties. So any advice would be much appreciated.

Maybe this is my cue to get off the computer and start interacting face to face.

    Hi,

I'm not clear about one thing from what you said - WHY if you hate it are you trying so hard to use it?

Surely it would make more sense to just ignore it and get on with things you do like doing.

I have lots of friends with successful businesses who have zero interest in FB and Twitter and so just don't use them.

You certainly don't need them to have your business be successful so why give yourself the hassle?

Even though I do fine without them, it almost seems as though you're leprous if you're not incorporating FB & Twitter into your site.

Far be it from me to leave money on the table because I'm too lazy to pick it up. Especially if there is a work around.

Just like Google, Facebook can do your bidding, or you can do its bidding. Know what it is that Facebook can provide for your business, and you may like Facebook a little more!

I don't entirely understand it either. Seems more like a novelty than a strategy for making money.

Or, if you're already established, it's a way of building brand loyalty. As far as getting up and running in the first place...good luck.

Social media marketing/networking is going to be the next big thing; I reckon anyway.

I mean with the millions upon millions of people using it each day it would be silly to waste all the potential prospects.

I have to admit that the behaviour on FB just annoys me at times. Does anybody get that FAKE FRIENDS-high five-i like your status-you like mine-feeling? What happened to meeting for coffee and have a real face to face chat? Oh yes, life happened. I miss the good old days though.

I am right with you. I too cannot stand FB but trying to use it so as to get social media going in the arsenal.

I love social media. I love talking and engaging with people, and its by far one of my favourite aspects of PR.

That said, if you don't enjoy it that can come across in your posts and in that case it probably isn't worth doing.

I dislike Facebook too, so you are not alone
I closed my Facebook account, and I only really use Twitter and YouTube. But I'm thinking of building up my LinkedIn presence.

I don't necessarily think you need to participate in all social media sites. And you certainly can outsource your social media management to someone part-time, probably for a very reasonable price.

LinkedIN is the most underrated social media tool at the moment! There is a ton of opportunity on LI and just to think, the average LinkedIN user has an average annual income of $88000. That is quite a some compared to FB and Twit, err.

Personally I don't dislike facebook but what I know it can be a real time-waster especially for people who depend on the Internet for their 'survival'.

Face Book is just a part of a traffic funnel. A tool.

No one part of a funnel should be so important that you do it but hate every minute of it. I couldn't even imagine starting a money stream without setting up a full fledged capture funnel under it and controlling the point of entry for each individual keyword.

To someone else that might seem to be complete overkill. It would be if we were not promoting our own products or didn't trust the vendor we are promoting.

If a person decides not to use a cap funnel their business is not doomed. There is a lot of online businesses raking in huge profit and would not know what a cap funnel is. Just like there will be many successful Face Book-less empires after this form of social magma fades.
