Are hacked domains bad for business?

Hi,

I have been searching for endless hours to find a domain name for my new site. I've found one but it would be a hacked domain (although rather cool).

What are peoples experiences with hacked domains? Do visitors like them or not? Do they give you a trendy image/brand? Or are they harmful?

Any advice/info/thoughts on this are welcomed.

Cheers all

G

Hacked domains are to do with the server they're hosted on, not the domain name itself. I think it's just lack of knowledge on a visitors part, as they don't necessarily realise that the domain name itself hasn't been hacked it's the server it's hosted on that would have been hacked.

You can buy old hacked domains and clean them up. (i.e. put new content, send reconsideration requests etc)

But most of the time, some domains are de-indexed by search engines, and it can take months to get your 'credibility' back.

I would suggest to get a fresh domain or a clean old domain.

Apologies, I do not mean hacked as in the literal term 'to hack', more of the name given to domain names which have been split up to use the index as their domain name, for example:

    del.icio.us or goo.gl or grem.io

    Cheers

That's not a hacked domain the vernacular. However, if you do buy such a domain, you need to also buy the dot com version of it because people will have trouble logging in otherwise. Disq.us for example also owns disqus.com and I'm willing to be the majority of their people use the second version even though the first version looks cool.

I find them annoying and they'd be expensive to register and also some countries may not allow you to register a domain using their TLD

Yes, as per my knowledge hacked domains may not be any damage for any of business, if you were going to clean up once.
