OK. This isn't really something that's talked about much here, so it may be out of place, but I would like some help.

I'm going to start selling on eBay but I was thinking about making a website with a forum to drive traffic to my items. Would you recommend both website and forums? Or would just a forum be enough?

I know some people wouldn't know how to use a forums, so maybe the website is needed. Any opinions?

(also im sure there used to be an eBay sub-section, am I going crazy or was it removed?)

Maybe a WordPress blog? I don't think I'd necessarily do a forum or a full-out html site. But WordPress might work really well, especially if you register a domain name that's close to your eBay ID, kind of like "brand" yourself?

If you do WordPress, you're allowing a certain amount of interaction via the commenting but without building out an entire website. If you do a forum but get no members posting, it'll look too empty. But if you blog every day or even every other day, you don't need any other comments to make it look active, you know?

You could put daily little blurbs up about your listings and embed the listings into your site. And if you SEO the blog posts correctly, it could start driving traffic to the blog and then over to your listings.

Just a thought. I think that's what I'd do if I was going to venture back into eBay.

    Good luck with it!

Getting a successful forum up and running isn't exactly a walk in the park. I don't know what you're going to be selling on eBay but I would take advantage of all the ready, willing and able buyers already there rather than spend endless hours trying to get a forum going.

OMG is that true. I used to run a forum back in the 90s, Matt's Scripts was really popular back then for forum software.

But WordPress would be a cool way to promote the eBay listings. A lot of eBay sellers also have websites or nowdays WordPress blogs to drive traffic over there.

I know, I have ran many many forums, and been staff at even more. Though none are in the area I am moving into.

I think I will just make a WP site for now, thanks guys.

I think a website is enough. A forum is very time consuming if you have decent visitors.
