Help on setting up e-book selling site

Hello warriors,

A few weeks ago I decided to take the initiative and start a website. I was poking my head in some "rate my site" threads, and the idea of a simple, e-book selling website in a decent niche seemed profitable and didn't seem to need so much upkeep. I decided to go into a niche regarding memorizing, and did my research and constructed an e-book that I plan to price at $20.00. I purchased the domain yesterday, and after some trouble at first, got it hosted and installed wordpress on it. Here's where the dilemna comes in. I need answers to the following questions:

1)Can I make a site very similar to quitnailbiting.com (this is my model site) using wordpress? If so, how long would it take to make, and roughly how would I do it? I've done some basic scanning through WP themes, and the best I could find is the one that's already on my site. The site is memorizingfast.com, if you want to take a look. Both the model site and personal site are in the sig.

2) How would I actually drive traffic to my site? I know it's largely based on getting to the first page of google, but I don't quite know how to do that. I've pushed it to the back of my mind when thinking about the site, because I thought I'd simply browse around and be set, but it seems harder than that, although I have some knowledge so far. If you guys could help me with this part, I'd greatly appreciate it. Another thing, what's backlinking? I've heard that word countless times, yet never knew what it meant. Are there any kinds of easy SEO plug-ins for cPanel or Wordpress?

Anything else I should know about setting up the site and selling the e-book would be greatly appreciated as well.

Thanks again, and have a nice day!

    Hi Shahnry,

With regards to the WP Plugins you could use the All in One SEP Pack. Just do a search for it in the Plugins menu of your blog.

You have to make a decision as to how you will sell the book. What payment processor will you use? Would you use a third party platform like DigiResults or eJunkie to sell the book through.

You would need to create a sales page, buy button and possibly a download/thank you page if you are going to host the book yourself.

    Just a few thoughts.

In my opinion, if you want to make some cash from your eBook, avoid WP. Get a simple squeeze page/opt-in page/sales funnel page and get people to sign up to your email list which you will host with Aweber. Send your product to those who subscribe to your email list and make cash that way. WP just complicates things.

As far as driving traffic goes, you will need to do some SEO work. Backlinking means getting the word out there, essnetially. The more sites your link (memorizingfast.com) is posted on, the more backlinks you'll have. Essentially, backlinks are links to your site on other websites.

Backlinking is the best way to get the best page rank and an excellent spot on Google. Research a little on keywords and backlinks and you'll be all set.

Let me know if you've got any questions.

Wouldn't it be better to keep the website as planned, with the appropriate e-book selling scheme, and just have the opt-in area near the bottom with some sort of small incentive? Or does having a plain squeeze page make a lot of difference?

A small opt-in on your blog isn't going to cut it. You can use your blog to generate backlinks to your squeeze page. IMO, start with a quality squeeze page and then just work on getting that squeeze page ranking well on Google.

    Go with:

    1. Squeeze page to capture contact info first.
    2. Sell product second - so after optin try to sell the products.
