Committed my 1st mistake in IM

Dear Warriors,
I committed my 1st mistake in IM. Today since morning I was searching for a domain name. I was using Google adword tool. I had checked exact match box. After working for 3 hrs. I took a break & shut down my lap top. In fact my wife had called me for lunch. After half an hour, I switched on my laptop & resumed search for my domain name. But this time I missed to tick exact match box. I found a term with 1 million global searches p.m. with low completion. I was very happy & immediately went to Namecheap to check availability. Dot com was not available, so I registered dot net. Somehow, I had some doubt & re-checked on adword tool. To my astonishment, I noticed that I had not ticked exact match box. On checking exact match, I found only 480 global exact match searches p.m. with low completion.
Now I am stuck with a name with .net ext. which has 480 exact match searches p.m. But this is the niche, wherein I have interest & want to be working on it till capable of working.
Should I keep this in my kitty & look for another domain name. I do not want to spend time, energy & money on a name which I know I will abandon sooner or later. After all it is matter of USD 10. Better to take this as my initial loss.
Or I can work on this domain name & build blog/site on it, but then would like to use the contents/information of this site on my new site, as the subject matter will remain same.
Thanks & Regards........cbnet

Good Job! Make about 1000 more mistakes like that and you will be well on your way to a thriving business!! I'm only half kidding... mistakes are a great way to learn, embrace them.

For what it's worth - I have bought more than a few "bad" domains like that myself. I have one that makes about $60 a month like clockwork on a keyword that gets something like 40 exact searches a month. Shouldn't be happening, but it is.

I have others that I have put more time and energy into that have made zero. Who's really to know what will happen? I learned a lot from all of it, that's the nice part.

I think it's worth putting something on it and see what happens. If it doesn't at least pay you back after a year then simply don't renew it.

Lesson learned - always do exact match. I didn't do that when I did most of my keyword search. Not as bad for me though, got one of the keywords at #1 page 2 on a 1.6 billion hit search.

Hers another mistake u dont want to make - dont confuse the adwords competition with SEO competition - u need something like market samurai to get the SEO competiton. High adwords competition is good if youre a blogger(I think).

Don't worry too much about that domain name.

Sara Blakely, the owner of Spanx, said that when she was growing up if she tried out for a sport and didn't make it, her dad would high five her. Tell her "Way to go."

    Why?

    Because she tried.

At the dinner table, Sara's dad would ask her what she failed at. She learned as a kid that failure was acceptable and not just acceptable, but encouraged.

Ms. Blakely took a $5,000 investment to $1 billion. And along the road to success, she had many, many mistakes (failures).

A couple of options I use for a "bad buy domain":

    1. Use it for squeeze pages and or affiliate link redirects.

    2. Use it for SEO plugin orientated plugins like WPsBox etc.

    Best regards

There is nothing wrong with the domain name as such. It perfectly goes with my niche. My apprehensions are two (I don't know whether my apprehensions are correct or wrong):

    (i) As dot com was not available, i got registered with dot net (Warriors to give their opinion, what impact will it have)
(ii) The global exact match searches are 480 p.m. (Warriors to give opinion are they ok). I know it depends on competition also. Adword tool gives low competition. I checked competition on google 1st page. But could not make any thing out of this)

If you look on it not so much as a mistake but as a delayed success - you may find you eventually find the exact website to build at that domain that'll rake in some dubloons!

You can even use it as a redirect to your eventual site and thus capture those 480 searchers who would otherwise have gotten away

Personally I would just use it as part of my link wheel, find a free hosting service, put it as bottom tier link wheel i.e scrape box --> automated articles ---> pro articles ----> (new blog)--> blogs ----> pro blogs ---> money site.
