List-Building Experts: What are you doing that we aren't?

I know there are many list building gurus around the forum that are making bank with their larger than life lists.

I have a question for you:

What are you doing that we are not?

How are you building your list and monetizing them?

and

How long do you wait before you sell?

Let the games begin...

What are you doing that we are not? We are taking the time to build relationships with our buyers instead of just see them as money. Love them as humans and listen to their needs and demands

How are you building your list and monetizing them? All the IM methods plus offline marketing such as seminars, flyers, direct mail etc.

    and

How long do you wait before you sell? Never sell always SHARE! Have confidence in your product and it will sell itself. Write great content about the offer, follow systems, build a network of workers and business and funding partners and put the biz on autopilot and repeat!

I agree with the emphasis on relationship and quality. For sure. However, there are very well known and successful list builders (in multiple niches) who monetize their lists by using the list itself as the business. That is, they grow multiple lists in a single genre/niche and continue to grow them. At the same time, they use those lists for solo ads and swaps.

From solos alone, say with 4 different lists - even very small lists - like 2K ea, you could be selling 2-3 solos per list per day AND at the same time be buying solos with a portion of the profits you make from selling solos. This refreshes and builds your list and protects it the unsubs while maintaining a certain freshness so the turnover 'doesn't matter'. Is this ethical marketing and a long term approach?

That's subjective. Using systems and scaling and solid business management, something like this can and does run for years. I think it partly depends on what the predilection of the person running the operation is.

While what I described is something that I plan on implementing, personally, most important to me in the long run is a method 'with heart'. This too, of course, is relative.

Why would I share my best secrets for free? If I do all the marketers that don't have any morals will ruin it.

There are a lot of things to consider when building a list and none of them focus on the size of a list because the size of a list is irrelevant. Just because you have a big list doesn't mean you make the most money.

However, that being said, if you concentrate on the more important aspects of building a list then eventually the size of your list will undoubtedly grow.

A lot of people focus on the wrong things when building a list... If you're thinking of a way to build a list for free then you just failed this test.

There's nothing wrong with "Free" but it's certainly not how you should be starting out.

the most important factor that will determine your success when building a list is if you have a sales funnel in place

    and is it effective

its ok driving every man and his dog to your squeeze page but you need to have a good funnel in place otherwise building a list is kind of pointless and will cost you time and money

your sales funnel is the backbone of your business so should be taken seriously

you do of course need a good free offer set up (of value)

maybe one time offers, upsells and sometimes downsells

follow up emails must be in place, (not always months worth but some at least to start with)

segment your lists from prospects, buyers and hot buyers

and lastly, sales funnels dont get fully developed overnight. They are always being tweaked for maximum ROI and also new products added

as you progress and build your business bigger your sales funnel will grow too

    hope this helps

Here's the best advice I ever learned and did and it changed my business. Pick one legitimate way to grow a list (paid advertising, SEO, FB, etc.) and get so good at it that it, by itself, will transform your business. Real businesses do really well by digging deep, not going broad.

My suggestion is paid traffic if you have money. Master that bad boy and list growing will never end.
