How many hours a day do you spend working?

Also what was the bench mark number for you personally, as in what amount a day/month did you need/or are still striving for until you feel like you've "made it"? And when you are working how do you approach it? strict and precision like, lazy and whatever you feel like, or somewhere in between?

i work one hour a day. felt like i "made it" when my online income equalled the amount i was making in my day job so i could quit. i do spend several hours per day now trying to learn new things that could potentially result in even more income such as joining this forum and learning about IM.

I spend about 4-6 hours a day learning the IM business. I'm still a newbie, so I'm not making any money online yet, but it will come soon. I think the best advice is to make sure you stay committed, have a plan, and take action. Don't give up easily, and NEVER stop learning.

  • Very good question. There is a huge difference between the number of hours most people think they work and the hours they actually do!

I find that without a TO DO list, I end up doing everything else online apart from working. I usually aim for at least 3 hours a day though.

Oh man, you basically said what I was thinking. Without a to-do list to keep you organized on what to do -- I just end up browsing the internet the whole time and not get any actual work done.

Once I figured that out though, I ended up performing better. I do however spend 2-3 hours a day researching a lot of new stuff and learning -- as much as you think you may know everything there is to know... there's always something more to be learned.

It depends on my workload. I've started doing a bit of freelance graphic work and it can take several hours a day to design something and communicate with clients. Obviously I can get things done faster if clients are quick with their responses, but while I wait I usually browse WF and do a bit of reading.

  • I do about 2-3 hours per day.

    e.g

Around 1:30 hours spent watching a webinar or some recording related to my niche.
About an hour writing an article/blogpost, video or setting up ads. Then about half an hour spending time in forums and social networks.

Then PS3 lol. Funnily enough, I've met some other IMers playing Gran Turismo 5 online. May end up doing some JV's with them, who knows!

I don't think people what the term 'work' is, going onto the warrior forums is not working unless you were looking for someone to hire. Educating yourself while it is very useful is not work. Remember always ask yourself the question "Am I inventing things to do to avoid the important?"

Used to spend every hour I could possibly spend on IM.

HOWEVER, what you have to understand is that it's not about how much you spend, but how well you use the time.

When I was spending 20hrs a day on IM, they were so unproductive. Now, doing 5hrs or so, I tend to do far more in those 5hrs than I did in those 20hrs.

I haven't done work on my IM for a few months. It's on auto pilot now. These days all I do is check sales figures. Make plenty of money but haven't made enough yet, so I'm getting back into it soon.

Recently I've been trading several hours a day, I enjoy that much more than IM, can be quite lucrative but I have good and bad weeks.

At first I thought only newbies would have to work 10+ hours a day, but it's staggering to see how many "pros" are still working that much.

Most of the time I try to reduce the number of hours I work, that's EXACTLY why I decided to try IM and my day job. I outsource all the hard work and I usually don't work more than a few hours every day, excluding weekends.

I enjoy the freedom, and that's exactly why I started on this journey. I'm currently offering a WSO to help other people achieve the same, that's the only reason I spend so much time on "work" now. But working several hours a day is not usual for me. I'm not saying this to brag, but I think the most important and valuable thing you can get out of owning your own online business is the freedom to live your life without attachments.

Definitely worth it, so go for it!

Every waking hour of every day, in programming terms, its like a cron job,
    * * * * *
But its not all really work, some of the things I do are for my own
personal growth, like gardening, (totally therapeutic and fun,)

(plus you can blog about your hobbies too.)

I guess it all about how you look at what your doing, some people
likely consider any kind of activity as work, when you are looking at
developing a work from home type job you have to learn how to manage your
time, because if you do not manage your time...

    Time will manage you...

I really vary. Because I'm disabled I have good and bad days, so I work as much as I can when I feel well, then let it slide a bit when I'm more unwell.

It's why being freelance suits me best - I can work at 4am if that's when I'm well enough, I don't have to be well enough to be at an office at a certain time.

The time I spend working varies from day-to-day. I like to set deadlines for myself. I usually make a list of all the things that I have to do for every project. I then take from that list and assign task for every day of the week. Whenever I do not complete a task I simply move that task to the list for the next day. There are days when I work as few as 2 hours and there are days when I work as much as 17 hours on my online business.

The important thing to know is that when you are passionate about the work you are doing, you will not notice the time slip by!!!

I completely agree with these points. If you are marketing part-time (like me) you really have to make the time you do have count. A mentor is essential - find someone in the area you are in who is successful. Someone who is where you want to be. Do what they've done to get where they are and it will save you an awful lot of time! Being "laser-focused" is another great point. Working from home you can be very easily distracted - the phone will ring or someone pops around, you check the post or look through your emails and before you know it an hour has gone by and you've got nothing done! Those of you with children at home will know that they are a big distraction (or little "time burglars!"). A big piece of advice from me is to have a To-Do sheet or Goal Sheet for that day and your aim is to get each and every one ticked off; or to a point where you cannot do anymore. That will definately keep you in check! Good luck!

+1 for having a To Do list to make your time spent working actually end up being time spent working.

As for the question in the OP, I always make a point to get in 30 hours minimum during the business week and then give myself freedom to work as much or little as I want on the weekends.

I find that this allows me to enjoy the occasional weekend grinder (always a good time), while still allowing me plenty of R&R both during the week and on the weekends when I feel I need it.

Although I may be working a lot right now, I plan to have things set up for me in the next few years so I can cut it down to maximum 30 minutes a day just checking up on all my campaigns -- or hire someone to manage them. I schedule an eight-hour day, just like a "real" job. But I'm pragmatic about it; the reality is that an eight-hour day is divided into three parts.

First, half of your day is spent on things that have nothing whatsoever to do with your actual work, but are important for your job. Like I have to participate in Skype groups and post on forums and show up in masterminds. I do this for about two hours at the beginning and end of my day.

Half of what's left is spent on things that aren't your job, but that you need to do your job. Like I have to build download pages and register on affiliate platforms and make PowerPoint presentations and such. I do this in the second half of my day.

And then you have the actual work, which for me is building products. I have a two-hour block of time set aside for that every day, after my initial two hours of forum posting and Skype chat and masterminds.

So my day basically goes like this:

    - Two hours socialising
    - Two hours doing "core" work
    - Two hours doing "support" work
    - Two hours decompressing

This maps pretty well to how the average "day job" goes for white collar corporate types: you get into work and have a bunch of morning meetings and conversations about the day's work. Then you buckle down and start working. And then you go to lunch. After lunch, you get a bunch of people coming up saying they need stuff from you, so you do all the stuff they need. And then you're fried, so you putter around pretending to get work done until it's time to go home.

I still work a few hours a day, as 90% of my businesses are outsourced,

When you step back and are able to work on your business and not IN your business, you whole outlook and income will change dramatically.

All my goal is to generate leads, and turn them into buyers.....or get my buyers, or list of buyers to BUY even more. Pretty simple but it works for us.

Here's the critical aspect of this.

A general does things a soldier cannot do.

Basically, every business comes down to just two kinds of work.

      1. Work only you can do.
      2. Work someone else can do.

All of your #2 work should be shuffled off to someone else.

And you should be minimising the #1 work as much as possible, so you don't have to work so much.

Ideally, you make everything your business needs into #2 work, so you never have to do anything. Not every business can run this way, but you should be pushing toward that goal as much as you can.

its like this start out putting in as much time as humanly possible when you start reaping that benefit in monetary form. Boom re invest in outsourcing and cheap paid traffic then you can tweak the amount of time you want to put in by your financial needs. I hear Brian Tracy say in the beginning you need to be at full throttle and then you can taper off. If it you always just go at a mediocre work speed and put in a mediocre amount of work then you will be cruising like that the rest of your life. Anyhow just put enough time in to get some momentum take enough action to make a difference .DONT spend too much time in the WF looking for validation ."Because whether you think you can or think you can't you're right..." I spend at least 8 hours a day at my computer - sometimes much more than that. But I'll admit it isn't all working.

This is partially because in my opinion, working is when you are actually doing something that makes you money, or will soon. Most learning (webinars, e-books, etc.) is NOT work in my book. Learning is important, but it doesn't make you money directly.

I also have many projects that I can work on, and I often get distracted from the one or two I SHOULD be working on, and I don't count this toward my "time working" for that day either.

Obviously goofing off on social media, games, or anything like that isn't working either - as enjoyable as it is.

And right now I'm still working on getting my income to cover our living expenses. I'm getting really close, and my husband is going to be cutting back to part-time soon in order to help me with what I'm doing, but for now I'm still trying to find the point where he can come home and work full-time on our business.

Depends. I disagree that continuing education isn't the same as working. I do a lot of SEO and marketing work for my company, and I split marketing work with regular web development and design work.

I'd guess around 30-40 hours a week, but part of owning a business is you're never really off the clock. So around 5 - 8 hours during the week, less on the weekends.

I might spend 6-8 hrs per day at my own leasure now, but that's only because i want too.

I spend as much time as I can working on growing my business. Usually I spend 12 - 18 hours a day; however, there are days when I only get about 2 - 4 hours of productive work done -- it depends on how I feel and how many outside forces impact my day.

Overall, I really enjoy what I do online and really lose track of time. Staying focused and not allow myself to procrastinate when it comes to getting some serious work done has been a challenge at times.

I work 5-7 hours six days a week, sometimes more. I have to admit that it's not always productive because I'm a dreadful procrastinator

I'm working on ways to be more productive. My current theory is that by limiting the time I sit at the computer, the more productive work will get done.

When I released my first WSO recently, I managed to get a phenomenal amount done in a few days, way more than I normally manage in a month, so I think focus and eliminating distractions is really the key.

Ideally I'd like to get my working day down to 3-4 hours of productive work and have evenings and weekends off

3-4 hours is enough for me there is always something to do but you got to keep the balance. I could work all day but that was not the reason I got into IM.

Very random..sometimes 18..sometimes none ....sometimes go for weeks without working..if you have a good staff under you....this can happen....of course expanding more will take more hours....what you put in...is what you shall get out!

It depends, as long as my work is not done yet I will finish it so that I can pass my report on the exact date. Working online is cool!
