This is a common mistake a lot of people make. You want to focus on a strategy, and then get a course to show you how to do this.

The biggest thing you need to do then is TAKE ACTION.

Internet marketing actually works, but only if you have a plan and then take action.

A lot of people talk money before idea. IM is simply about finding a gap in the market and providing a product that fills the gap. I'd start with finding that gap and make sure you actually care about that market.

    Welcome to WF

First of all, you need to decide which route you want to take. There are many ways to make money online. Affiliate marketing (physical products via Amazon & etc. or info products via clickbank), adsense, CPA marketing, PPC, ebay. These are just a few. Choose one method & follow through.

Thank you for your feedback. I know I would need a plan of action but its what to do and where to start. Like I say I spent over$400 on stuff and nothing helped. A lot of people say the stuff I bought were scams I would just like some good help of people who are trusted and that's why I turned to use.

The first thing you want do do is search to see if there are any affiliate product you can promote, assuming you have a niche in mind if not thats the first step then go and create your own product or get it outsourced.

I will begin with building my list in a certain niche. Don't do SEO, it is really frustrating as you will see your stat every day and scream "WHY NO VISITORS??"

So paid traffic is better as you'll feel better "I have 300 visitors today and 10 subscribers, OH YEAH!"

Actually adsense is a form of affiliate marketing since you're getting paid for the clicks people make on the ads on your sites.
There's Amazon, CJ (Commission Junction), CPA, Clickbank, all sorts of things!!!
Try one of them at a time. Read all you can about them, TAKE ACTION and see what happens, it's when you take action that you truly learn.

Here are some other threads similar to this with lots of valuable suggestions:

Simpliest and surest way to make at least $1000 per month

If you had to make $500 a week within 2 months...

Making a $1000 a Month is Easier than it seems?

How To Make Money Online Once You Have Page One of Google Ranking

That should give you a great start.

What finally worked for me was finding out that market, niche and keyword research really matters and is the most important thing.

It takes the same amount of work to be in a niche that is either not profitable or not reachable by you with your level of skill and funding as it takes to reach a niche that is profitable and reachable even for free.

Once you realize and apply that effectively, you can start making money building a list in a matter of hours that you then scale up over weeks and months.

Then, when you get one niche list going pretty well, you can add others.

Also, read my post about suggestions for newbies.

If you search this forum, you will find lots of quality step by step guides for free.

Everyone will most likely advice you try what they are trying or do what they are doing but you don't know if they have been successful at that yet.

My personal way, that finally worked for me, is list building. Now that I've done it a while, I find it quite simple. The key is keyword research, of course.

Like all the "Big Guys" say, "the money is in the list."

    Good luck.

When starting everyone just wants to make some extra money every month.

Take some time to see what methods there are, and see what appeals to you and
what you could maybe work on. Then focus only on one method and see what skills
you need to learn to make it work.

If you persist in your endeavor amazing things can happen.

    Yamaha Racer,
You've tackled the biggest hurdle, figuring out a niche you're interested in that may have a profitable possibility.

If I were you, I'd learn how to do keyword research, so you can find out:
    A. if there are enough people interested in "motorbikes" and/ or "tree surgery"
    B. if they have money to spend on them

If you find out those two things, then you should research what type of affiliate products might be available to which you can refer them. If you've purchased something in the past that has an affiliate program, you have the added ability to endorse it and review it. (An example might be a particular helmet you're fond of.)

From there, there are many different options.
You can learn article marketing and include a direct link to your affiliate offer in the resource box.
You can blog about the topic of your choice and after you start getting traffic to it monetize it with things like adsense and your affiliate offer.
You can go the PPC (pay per click) route and pay to have people to go to your affiliate offer. (WARNING: this can get very expensive if you don't know what you're doing)
You could write an ebook and offer it on fiverr.com or as an incentive to join your list of people interested in your topic.
You can use a free service like listwire.com to create an autoresponder series of email messages related to your topic and include your affiliate offer within the email messages series. (your list)
The list of options goes on and on, because internet marketing is just selling things on the internet. What can you sell? Just about anything you can think of.
Because there are so many things to sell, and so many ways to sell them it is almost impossible to give you a definitive way to do it.
Your best bet is to figure out what you're comfortable doing to sell what you're comfortable selling then, do it!

I hope this helps you a little bit.
Best of luck with your internet marketing efforts, keep us posted as to your successes.

You should get your own website and autoresponder, find a niche, create or find a product, get traffic, build an email list, email them every 3 days, then lead them back to your website/affiliate link to buy your product. That's all you gotta do.

Clarity is a HUGE part of IM success.

IM is actually pretty simple: you can sell only one of two things:

    1. Products
    2. Services

    That's it!

And selling products or services online happens in the same basic way for everyone, no matter what they're selling:

    Traffic > Opt-in page > Autoresponder series (or e-zine) > Sales page

That's it! It's just that simple. (We IMers tend to overcomplicate things.)

But no matter what your niche is, or whether you're selling a product or a service, do you know what your business model is?

A business model is the framework or skeleton of your business. Essentially there are three types of online business models:

    1. Membership-based model

A membership-based business model allows you to build a community of people (your members) who are as passionate about your subject as you are. Your membership fees can be monthly or annual, but either way, you're building recurring, passive income.

There are a lot of resources and information out there to help you build a membership-based business if you're interested in doing this.

    2. Product-based model

Selling products allows you to maximize your time and effort by selling items over and over again. This can be hard goods or it can be information products. Information marketing is it's own business model under the product-based model. Information marketing allows you to take your brain to the bank by creating a product ONCE based on what you know and selling it over and over again.

Affiliate marketing falls under both models. You can choose to market either products or services as an affiliate.

    3. Service-based model

Selling services can be great for 1) generating quick cash (as in the case of article writing or video producing) and 2) establishing your expertise and getting testimonials.

However, in the long run, your goal should be to offer services at a PREMIUM. The biggest advantage of IM is LEVERAGE. You're able to leverage your time, money and expertise exponentially online. We all have just 24 hours each day. Time to get ruthless about what you expect for those hours you spend in IM each day. Expect more of yourself and more from your business friends, clients, partners, etc.

What results are you getting for those hours you spend online each day? Ultimately, your services should be at the bottom of your funnel and cost the most since they involve your time and personal attention. (We all have a limited amount of time each day.)

The fun (and confusion) comes in with all of the endless mix-and-match possibilities of the above models. If you're just starting or still struggling to make money, keep it simple:

    Pick just ONE!

    1. Pick ONE niche. (Something you're interested in and know something about.)

    2. Pick ONE target market for your product or service. (Who will buy what you're offering? The more specific you are, the more you narrow it down, the more successful you'll be.)

    3. Pick ONE business model.

Now that you're clear about what business you're in, FOCUS! (And stop buying any info not related to your niche and target market, period!)

    F -- Follow
    O -- One
    C -- Course
    U -- Until
    S -- Successful

And remember: build a list, Build a List, BUILD A LIST!

In IM, it's easy to put the cart before the horse. Take a deep breath, step back and consider what type of business you're REALLY want. Don't worry about getting traffic or buying that expensive traffic product until you know 1) what your business model is, 2) what niche you're in and 3) WHO your target market is!

Successful business people will tell you that MARKETING is more than half the effort that's needed for success anyway. So pick a niche, target market and business model. Then spend most of your time and effort marketing it.

If you DON'T have a solid plan or system, THAT'S when it's hard. A good system will shave YEARS (and save you big $$$) off of your learning curve

That's why I recommend investing in at least one good, comprehensive IM course (or mentor who will give you such a system) instead of jumping from one $37 e-book to the next. A lot of people here complain about not being able to make any money. But neither are they willing to invest in their business. (Buying a random bunch of $37 e-books doesn't count.)

The best thing I ever did was invest in a comprehensive IM course aimed at REAL business owners, not just other IM wannabes. Yes it was $1500. (It's no longer available.) But it was truly some of the best A-Z IM info I ever bought. Everything else I've learned (from the $37 e-books) since has simply been plugged into this system.

Get a solid plan or system and then work the plan!

    Hope this helps!

Michelle (Nightengale) made some great points. IMers do over complicate things, but a basic understanding of those complications helps avoid some pitfalls. There is a lot of advice available in this forum, but don't get too caught up reading posts here. Use your time wisely, it's the one commodity we all have in equal quantities. Don't get caught up trying to learn everything there is to know, either. Pick your path and follow it with the tenacity of a bulldog!

You have to select either or both of the following to succeed online :

      (a) Sell a product
      (b) Sell a Service

What are you good at ? Selling product or service ? Between the two, product selling is a better choice than the service.

Create your own website (free or paid) and select some good products which you like. I would recommend "International Calling Card" and "Web Hosting Package" which will give you good sales and in turn you would earn good money.

Most of the people here spend a lot of time in driving traffic to your website through SEO. While this is unavoidable, I feel this is something which can be dealth with at a later date.

Your challenge is to get customers who can buy products from you. There are some proven methodologies which will give you definite sales. Proven systems like Direct Mailing, List Building, Emailing, Telecalling and so on. Pulling out data for sending direct mails is possible and it's just that you need to know where to go and get these datas. Google search can give you answers for any question under the sky.

If you just follow this guideline, there is no investment from your side at all. You just need to invest your time and that's it. You need to invest money only if you are looking for a "mentor", else this can be done on your own and it is not a rocket science.

      Good luck

You are right, finding the right market niche and keywords are definitely the most important part to make it faster and easier to make money online.

Once you find a market that is profitable, you have to also make sure it is reachable by you or else you will spend a lot of time and money for nothing.

Yes, I'm finding I have to go pretty "micro" level on some niches...so much competition from high PR pages if you are tinkering with some of the big topic areas. Keep going lower, you'll find something.

For example, I found a crazy awesome niche on accident last night, related to...monsters. Not anything I'll develop this year, but a solid item for the "project list" to further research later.

Oh and I'd recommend to market someone elses project before you take the time to build your own book. You'll learn from your mistakes...on other peoples product. Then apply your refined process on your own product.

      Hi,

Affiliate Marketing is a good point to start.

For whatever you do, you will need website/link traffic/visitors in order to generate sales or sign ups, and let me tell you that is truly the challenge for every marketer.

Hey there let me give you an idea of how I made it work. I actually started a my own company The Success At Home Blueprints and I teach people how to start businesses online. I show them how to set up blogs, how to build list, how to incorporate social media all types of stuff that's my niche.

So my advice to you is to create a business around something you love doing and then add all your internet marketing skills to it to drive traffic. If you don't learn ways to get traffic going to an authority site you will have a long road. Forget everything else, remember traffic is king because once you have it then you can do with it what you want.

So my advice is to build a blog, start blogging about everything you have learned, write articles make videos etc.. and then put together a free report to start capturing some leads, teach your leads something very valuable before you try to sell them anything and then offer them something like a residual lead generation system.

    hope this helps ok.

Don't worry too much about the traffic to start with, start with creating good, quality, unique content. If you do that, the search engines are more likely to like your site when you submit it to them. (A site like pingomatic.com or pingler.com is good for letting them know to send bots to check out your site.) If the search engines like your site, they'll send "organic" traffic to your site, which is free.
Additionally, leverage any social media you are already associated with. (such as Facebook or twitter) If they're interested, they'll check it out, if not, maybe they'll tell friends of theirs who are interested about it and their friends might check it out. The good thing about social media is the potential leads are already familiar with you. As long as you have a good reputation with them, that's a good place to start.
If you create a video related to your niche and post it on YouTube, that is another potential source of free traffic.
In IM (internet marketing), two things are very important. The relationships you build, and the reputation you develop, which must both be protected. Give more than you expect to get. Keep your promises and commitments. Try to help as much as possible wherever possible. Underpromise and overdeliver. Do all of these, and people will be happy to reciprocate.
    Best of luck!

As someone already said... don't worry about traffic for the moment..
First, see if there's a market for what you have to offer. If there is, if people on that niche are spending money, then you're on the right track.

Make the best ebook you can, if it takes weeks to research the content, then so be it. Make content that people are willing to pay for!

Think about yourself as the customer. If an ebook you buy doesn't have any value to it, you'll ask for a refund right away, yes? Well make SUCH AN EBOOK that people will get wowed by the content, and will be willing to give you money for anything else you come up with, within that niche.

You've seen it happening, make sure you do the same.

When you finally make the product, then worry about the traffic =) (traffic is king of course, but content also is). that's my opinion.

I think the greatest way to start earning money is through affiliate marketing. when you start taking action to build site, drive traffic, etc you learn a lot. don't just sit and consume all the information you get online. start applying them. it is the only way of getting best at things. please stop buying all the products you see. try to stick to one or two of them

Don't make it too hard for yourself. All you need to do is find something people are passionately interested in something they want to find a solution to, give it a twist you don't find out there, and make it look and act as the best thing out there.

Even if you are on a budget this can be done. For instance if you don't have the cash to make a book, you can find an expert, call them on Skype and ask if they open to being promoted for free. Then you can work out a list of FAQ's and call again to record an interview.

Alternatively, if you are simply interested in being an affiliate you can easily find plenty of contacts on this forum alone that are looking for affiliates.

Another avenue that you might not have considered is setting up JV's for internet marketers. I am interested in finding people to do that for me.

Since you are a beginner, I suggest starting with promoting someone else's product. You have minimum of the outlay and you learn marketing before product creation. Many that start making products before being affiliates are so lost in "their" product that they don't even understand why it did not sell.

Understand, there is no magic bullet. You need to start applying everything you learned for the past 2 years. If not, your going to go no where fast.
