Or you can just buy a PO Box and use it as the address, that way you dont need private registration.

Not sure whereabouts you are based but as stated above just buy a business mailing address you can use for domains and other business related stuff. In the UK you can get them now for free or for £11 ($20) a year including so many mail scans.

Sure. I've used a few mailing addresses but my current 2 are:-

scanmypost.co.uk (about £11 a year including 5 mail scans)

Home | UK Postbox (from free but pay 90p per scan)

Thank all of you for your replies.

I want private registration for several reasons but mostly I dont necessarily want google or anyone else to know the blogs are related.

Although the blogs are all original and decent content it is nobodies business tha tthey are owned by the same company

try namecheap, dynadot, name.com, or moniker. if you have any domains that are not developed i would recommend not using privacy.

Can you explain what you mean about "not developed" and why you'd recommended not having privacy for them, please?

i mean if you have some domains to use for a future project but havent turned it into a website yet then its a good idea not to turn on privacy. you never know what person or company might look you up on the whois and email you wanting to buy your domain for a lot of money. i get several emails per day from people emailing me wanting to buy my domains from the whois.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but there's something else you ought to know.

Go Daddy has this (in)famous 60-day lock that kicks in if the registrant name has
been changed for any reason. Unfortunately that also takes effect if you turn off
their Domains By Proxy/WHOIS privacy thing, which (also unfortunately) needs to
happen if you want to transfer your domain name/s away from them.

If you try to transfer your domain name from Go Daddy to whoever registrar, it'll
not go through because the gaining registrar can't "see through" the Domains By
Proxy thing. If you remove DBP, it'll change the registrant name.

If the registrant name is changed for any reason, that'll turn on Go Daddy's lock
for 60-days. If that happens, you can't transfer your domain name from them 'til
60 days after that.

Hope this clears things, although it might not be a good thing once it sinks in.

I disabled my "domains by proxy privacy" for my domain yesterday and transferred the domain from Godaddy to Namecheap successfully.

They may have changed this rule recently. I think I recall reading somewhere that they got in trouble for doing this and it was an issue earlier.

Personally, I no longer do privacy on domains (as others have stated here) and use non-related whois info on different GD accounts. I do use an email address that forwards onto a real email address, however, on the off chance something needs to be confirmed.

My reasons are:

1. Google have previously stated, regarding domain privacy, if you use it then you have something to hide. They didn't explicitly state rankings would be affected but I would assume so if you read between the lines
2. Trusting GD with privacy is humorous given their business track record

PO box is a solid method.

Also, even if your domain is private there are ways to find out who owns it. Under pressure, hosting companies will give you up rather than face legal problems.

Yes, the address will be private, but it's not really the address that I want to be private, but my first and last name. After all, you don't want potential employers or relatives to do a search on your name and find out you own a domain like howtoturnsmallpenisintolargepenis.info ...or something

Lol yes that could be a tad bit embarrassing. I'm not sure where they would stand on using nicknames I.e. you could use Marky, Marko, Markie (then real surname). Or if you had a long first name you could shorten it. Or if you had a common name use it anyway, you can always deny you were the same person.

Private domain registration will help, but if you use Adsense people can just search the publisher ID and find out which sites are linked. Are people aware of this? There seems no way around that. So even if you do hide your info on the domains, there is still a way people can tell the sites are linked if you use Adsense (and perhaps some other programs where you can only get one account). Thoughts?
