The PLR industry...Still viable?

Yes it alive and kicking. But it's not necessarily easy to succeed in it. There are a few big competitors who will grab your content (legally - I am not suggesting they are doing anything wrong) if it's good and simply add it to their membership sites, effectively cutting you out of what should be your market. To some extent you can deal with this by restricting the rights you allow your purchasers to pass on, but as I said, it is not easy.

But, to be perfectly fair with you about 90% of the stuff is just rehashed crap. If you wanna' take the PLR route then it can actually be pretty difficult that hasn't already been all over the internet. Although, very often you will come across some PLR gold that is brand new and fresh.

I just started my own PLR site, so I hope it's still viable.

However, I know people like Tiffany Dow and others always say that PLR is still alive and kicking. You just need some good content and you can succeed.

I believe that Tiffany is right. Follow the golden rule: content is king.

Excellent! I'm scheduling to start creating more PLR packs which is why I'm asking. I know there's tons of crap out there but considering how many clients of mine who are continually asking me for articles there has to be something going on with PLR.

Tiffany Dow, she's a member of this forum and the creator/author of "PLR ATM," which is a guide on how to get started with writing and selling PLR content. Her PLR store is PLRMiniMart.com and she has a great blog that I recommend following as well.

Yeah it's viable. I have a PLR store and I don't do much to advertise it but I still makes sales almost on a daily basis. So I guess people still want good quality content and they don't mind if it's PLR.

Very true. Lisa Stoops has a member training forum for PLR sellers. It's really helped several of us get focused and more productive. It is a competitive business, of course, but many PLR sellers are friends and support each other.

People will always need content. Good buyers/marketers will work with PLR to make it unique to them and their style. They get much better results than those people who just copy and paste it into their blog or website.

It is. You have to do some work to modify it, but as long as you have a good marketing strategy to use your PLR material with, you should be good to go in terms of getting traffic, and getting sales.

Like everyone else said, PLR is alive and well, both if you're a seller or a buyer. That said, it's still got to be high quality if it's going to be of any use to anybody.

Also, Will Edwards mentioned above that many people will take your PLR legally to add to their membership sites - well I wanted to add that it isn't always legal, as many of us limit our PLR licenses to stop this happening. Limiting your PLR in this way can make it more valuable for the kind of buyers who want to use it on their websites as content (not those who simply want to resell it).

I've been away from the forum for quite some time, as you can see from the lack of thank-you's in my data , but I had to chime in here...And, yes, I am starting up a PLR site.

As both Ruth & Patti have said, the PLR industry is very much alive - for marketers who provide quality content.

Of course there will always be people who offer nothing but junk, just looking for a quick buck! But, IMO, that helps those of us who take our PLR businesses seriously to stand tall in the market.

I have noticed that many people start their PLR stores, then it withers away from being frequently updated. I hope to establish my store as one here for the long run.

Yes, PLRs are still alive! And most IMers still go for PLR.

Creating good quality and keeping in touch with your list is important. I try to release at least one new pack per week and offer tips on how to actually use the PLR. Teaming up with other PLR sellers is another tip which has really bought some great connections about. We might all write about similar topics but each version will be unique. Plus don't forget PLR buyers tend to buy from many different sources too.

As all the other great PLR sellers here have said, it is definitely alive and kicking. In fact, I think high quality PLR content is more important than ever. The focus on creating quality content on a consistent basis has put more and more pressure on marketers. PLR is an easy solution. However, It's also more important than ever to customize your PLR to fit your target market.

As for restrictions, every site is different so you'll have to read the terms and rules for each. Most PLR includes the restriction that you can't pass the PLR rights on to someone else, unless it is specifically labeled as "Resell PLR". Some content also has a minimum price set if you want to sell it as a product.

For networking with other PLR store owners, you're doing it right here for one thing! However, many have their own blogs where you can comment and interact on their posts. Do's and don'ts? Well, they're the same as any other networking. Offer value and help vs. pointless comments and demands. Also, promoting other PLR sellers content as an affiliate is a great way to win anyone's notice.

I completely agree with what everyone else said, but I wanted to add that it is a good idea to set up your own affiliate program when you get your site established. If you promote other PLR writers they will likely look at your site and promote your stuff. This is a great form of networking and really helps to get your name out there.

You can be successful in the PLR business but its not all about having good content. Marketing your content, and building your brand is very important. It takes patiences and consistency to build your PLR business like with any other business.
