How important is it to attach pictures to your posts?
Will adding pictures every time you make a new post, make you rank higher in the SERPs?

    I have been browsing a lot of blogs lately and it looks like most of the "professional blogs" have a "cool" image to most of the posts (if not all), while the "IM blogs" normally have none or very few.

    Wonder if this is something Google is looking into as well ... hmm

      Images speak more than words and I think adding images to the post makes it attractive. But remember to compress the images using Smush.it before uploading so that big images do not have impact on the speed of the blog.

        adding a good image should also help against visitors opening you page and going away qucikly, they see a good meaningful image they may read your content to see what's about/mroe details...
        So if your headline fails to grab attention your image may do the trick

    I'm not sure it matters much at all from an SEO perspective, save for the fact the "alt" tag is regarded as extra text content.

    I do think, however, that even the most word-thirsty people like the monotony of a huge wall of text broken up a little by an image and some minor stylistic elements that perhaps even ease reading on a screen, so on my own sites I try to do that without going overboard. Drop caps, a small relevant image (even if re-used), proper formatting (bold/italic/underline, occasional highlighting, subheadings etc). I try to keep it classy (never easy for a northerner ).

    On other people's sites to which I've syndicated the same articles, I'm mindful of the possibility of any formatting (stylistic more than structural) coming off as brassy and not in keeping with their own principles and so keep it to a minimum. And there are no images in these, either.

    It makes the post look prettier but with regard to SEO there really isn't much benefit at all.

    The actual content is far more important than adding a picture or two.

    Pictures are very important especially with the blog/web 2.0 posts as it helps to convey the message in better and distinguished way too. And it is not primarily for the user but for search engines too so that they could understand your blog and its posts well and so accordingly list them in the search listing pages. One must use pictures in their posts, sites like Squidoo, Hubpages and other top web 2.0 sites prefers pictures conveying your posts/subtitles and etc. Now when Google prefers explanation and quality more than links pictures would be the best to be state on it.

    Hi,

    You can get image benefit from:

    - Adding the same name to the image that supports your message.
    - Having an 'alt tag' describing the image (which again reflects back on your message).

    It makes people want to read the articles more than just big blocks of text. If the images are interesting, you can get a lot of traffic from Google images also.

        I use pictures in all my blog posts, not because of any SEO benefits, but because people like to have something to look at. When I'm confronted with a wall of text with nothing to make it interesting, I tend to click away.

        I get almost all my images from a site called Morguefile - they're all free and no attribution is required. Love that site!

    An intriguing or shocking photo works well because it draws your readers to your article.

    If it's intriguing enough they'll dig up and follow you word for word to uncover the story behind the photo.

    Putting images in your blogs or websites are fun and catchy. And yes, pictures do say a thousand words, so you don't have to try too hard with your article when you have pictures to support it.

      I agree some best examples for these practice in on hupages and squidoo, some bloggers aside from keyword link also uses image linking for this could also be beneficial on their SEO campaign

        If you're going to have images on your posts you might also want to make those images clickable so they go to an affiliate offer. If the person likes the image they may also have an interest in a product related to that picture.

        Don't waste the real estate.

    Do you mean blog posts or forum posts? For blogging, for food blogs... adding images is very important. Otherwise your visitors wont have an idea of what the recipe/dish should look like. Then they may not try to create the dish at all.
