Internet Marketing as a career?

You may have seen me around the forum here and there asking nooby questions and such but i have another question.

I'm still in highschool (only a junior) and in order to graduate I need to shadow a professional in a field that I'm interested in. Obviously I'm extremely interested in Internet Marketing and I'd love to shadow someone for day because I would like to go into IM as a career.

How would I do that do you ask? well.. We could talk over chat, over webcam, or something else. If I don't get a good response then I can always just do some random profession that I have no interest in.

If anyone is interested in more details or anything you can PM me although i don't have enough posts to reply. So you can pm me your email and I'd be happy to fill you in.

And hey! Maybe this could lead to a friendly new partner in IM =]

Thanks
Pete

Well in a way yes. I am pretty new to IM but I know the direction I'm headed. But I am still have a lot to learn and in order to graduate high school I have to do a job shadow. So I thought I would shadow a professional Internet marketer. Or even like an SEO expert.

Start with affiliate marketing and take action. It costs literally pennies to run a affiliate marketing business. Your experiences in taking action will give you more than you could learn from shadowing a person for one day. All you need is a website domain, hosting account and a auto responder and a product to promote to get started.

I wouldnt wish a career in IM on my worst enemy - I am thinking of giving up after 10 years. Im really struggling now, and I can "do" everything techwise. I just cant seem to get traffic and doors are slamming shut harder and faster than ever for affiliates/CPA marketers and my importing goods has gone south due to bad suppliers taking the pi**.

If you are in IM - then your best bet is to sell rubbish / old hat advice and software to noobs. They are the only non-savvies left online (ie the internet marketing wannabees.) This could make you rich - many here will testify.

      Wow, a little jaded man.

The IM industry is a great profession and I encourage my 13 year old son to get involved with it every day. I have 3 college degrees but they are useless now as I am a full-time marketer. So college is rapidly becoming overrated....

As for the OP, I would let you shadow me, but I am afraid you wouldn't learn enough to make it worth your while!!

Haha great advice do thank you! But it's not so much the fact that I WANT to job shadow. I HAVE TO for school in order to graduate. So I thought I would shadow something I'm interested in. And thanks for warning me! I appreciate it.

    Dan Kennedy recently:

"internet marketing is not a business, nor is it a profession. It’s a use of a media.
So, ultimately, we’re in the marketing business. We’re in the money business.
We’re in the customer development and nurturing business.
We’re in the influence and persuasion business, tied to whatever products and services that are deliverables."

Virtual don't underestimate yourself. ANYONE who is full time in IM is perfectly capable of letting me shadow them due to the fact that I'm so new. So if your interested PM me your email(sorry. I can't pm back because I don't have enough posts)

If you want to get started in internet marketing, there are no starting age as long as you know what you are doing. On the contrary it is your advantage that you have started early. Keep yourself updated with latest happenings.

MrCoder YOU WOULD BE INSANE TO GIVE UP!!! Success usually comes in the form of temporary defeat. You climb your mountain for 10 years and then give up? Are you crazy? You are a warrior for the 10 years you have put in. Maybe you do not have a specific definite purpose... One idea that you stick to until you have success. Pay for traffic if that is your problem. Put yourself out there and let people see your sites to see what your doing wrong.
