Paypal ATM Card Holders: New Fees

This isn't as bad as Paypal freezing your account with $10,000 in it, but it's annoying all the same. Today when I withdrew money from my local Chase bank using my Paypal ATM card, there was a message that there would be a $3 fee. This had never happened before, so I inquired at the bank. They knew nothing about it and suggested it must be Paypal's doing.

After a little research, I discovered that Paypal ATM cards are now being handled by a new bank, Bancorp. So it seems that there's no way to avoid a hefty withdrawal fee every time I use my Paypal card. Does anyone know if there are any ATMs that won't charge an extra fee for using this card? Those $3 fees will add up after a while.

There has always been a $3 fee when using a PayPal card at an ATM machine. It doesnt charge the $3 if you use it as a debit card in a store or online though.

There was never a fee if you used a Chase ATM. I'm not the only one who has noticed this. There are several messages on Paypal message boards about this. True, you can avoid the fee by using it for product purchases in stores.

I only get charged $1 by PayPal to use my card at an ATM, plus whatever the actual ATM fee is which is normally $2, so its still $3, but if I had to start paying $5 to get money off my PayPal card i would stop using an ATM and get my money out at one of my local big grocery stores that dont charge for cash back.

I just looked at two recent withdrawals - it allocates $303 but then gives $1 back to me and I end up paying $2.

To me, it's worth the convenience but I can also transfer into my bank account for free. I did a transfer Friday and it was in my account this morning - 2 business days isn't bad at all.

This has been my exact same experience. The total is $3. But, even if it went up slightly, I'd still use it just due to the convenience.

Contact Paypal and get them to enable Auto Sweep for you - that will send you all your money to your bank every morning between about 3-5 and will bypass their security checks for large withdrawals.

I never heard of that, will look into it. I always thought that Paypal didn't like people withdrawing all of their money.

Pfft. Who can argue with such (non)logic? It's not a Paypal debit card issue. Pretty much every ATM on the planet charges a fee for non-affiliated ATM cards, so are you tired of them too?

It depends on which ATM you use. Paypal charges $1.00. Any other fees are charged by the owner of the ATM machine you're withdrawing your money from. If you get your money from a credit union ATM, they usually don't charge a fee, so you only pay the $1.00 that Paypal charges. And you don't have to be a credit union member to use their ATMs in most cases. I'm not.

All you can do is try to withdraw a larger amount to defy the $3 fee, hope that helps.

You can try and buy something cheap(like gum) using it as a debit/credit card, then just get cash back. Most joints don't allow a lot though, think cvs is $35, gas stations even less etc...but avoids the $3 fail fee.

I just go into a grocery store, buy a pack of gum or something else under a $1 that I'd buy anyway, and then get cash back. Of course this only works if I want to take out less than $100.
