Are Amazon Earnings Really This Volatile?

I am having some really inexplicable results with Amazon. I installed an API script from AffilateBang on a handful of site in May 2010 and let it sit. I did not dare install it on more site because a few of my sites were subsequently banned by Google. These were my results

What happened was that there was a small burst of earnings at first, which peaked at $152.52 in Sep 2010. Then the earnings dropped to 0 and then suddenly restarted at $211.43 in June 2011. This peaked at $531.13 in Dec 2012 and then suddenly dropped rapidly to 0.

This cannot be explained by the drop in traffic nor by a usual drop in conversion rate after Christmas. I am worried that there may be something wrong with the script as Amazon said they were going to change their API in February. However, the script seems to work fine for me but perhaps my affiliate ID isn't being registered. The AffiliateBang site is down and so this make me more suspicious.

I wonder if anybody else has seen anything like this? I wonder if there is any other API script that you can recommend?

Derek

My earnings are very consistent at just around $2k per month provided I spend the hour or two per day providing the upkeep that my sites require. So, no, Amazon earnings are not volatile based on my experiences.

You have some nice earnings there. My earnings are rather consistent. Perhaps it is the method you are using.

    • It's all related directly to traffic to your sites. Are your sites jumping around in Google? Are you getting the same amount of traffic each day?

I find that once I have a site that makes sales with Amazon, it's just a case of getting traffic to it. If sales drop, then it always due to lack of traffic.

How long does it take for the earnings to show, I sold 3 products but I only see commision for 1. Do you only get commision is the product has shipped? Or that shouldnt matter? Its been like that for almost a week.

Yes you only get the commision once the item has shipped. Some products take longer to ship than others. I think its possible an order could have been cancelled also.

Never had a problem with Amazon tracking my commissions, sit around 4 to 4.5k a month, Xmas is an exception with a 40% uplift.

Today my conversion rate was 0.89% which is awful. I know it varies, but i haven't seen a conversion this bad before. Has anyone else had a poor conversion rate today?

Your traffic is inconsistent. Or quality of traffic is. Not amazon.

I've never had inconsistency, did you change your pricing strategy at all and that may have been why?

I think the quality of your traffic is inconsistent. It definitely doesn't have anything to do with Amazon. I can understand how frustrating that must be.

I looked at my daily Amazon stats and found that the number of daily clicks corresponded closely to one particular site. So it seems there are 3 factors here

    1. Decline in actual traffic by around 50%
    2. Decline in quality of traffic - perhaps to important converting pages
    3. Decline in visitor's urge to buy after the Christmas period.

Still I have would be happier if I could see an actual conversion so as to be certain that the script is working properly. Otherwise, I will not be using that script again.

You might want to see your traffic stats, because the traffic define the income when it comes to amazon affiliate
