That's a nice story but Squidoo could delete her lenses at any time. It's better to build backlinks to your own sites and use Squidoo as part of the backlinking process.

Alas ... it actually isn't at all.

It's thoroughly tricky for newbies, in fact, because they're exactly the ones who don't realise that the "advantages" there would actually be exactly the same (or better) in so many other places where they could own and control their own pages. Even without paying anything, if that's what they want. Even with a free, built-in site-builder, if that's what they want.

        This ^^^^ exactly.

There are some pretty good points there, but they're the ones that don't apply specifically to Squidoo and would be true wherever you hosted your pages.

It makes little sense, in fact, to host them on a site where you can never even own or control them yourself, and where you'll always be subject to someone else's restrictions, conditions and their ever-changing terms of service and the inconsistent ways in which they interpret them.

That's "a wing and a prayer", not a "business".

        They don't need any, Irma.

They can get free hosting with a built-in site-builder somewhere like Weebly or Yola or Blinkweb, or use a self-hosted Wordpress blog somewhere like 000WebHost or Byethost. All free of charge. And that way they own and control their site.

It's no more difficult or expensive: it's just a whole lot safer and better.

Agreed. Never put your eggs in one basket, especially a basket as unreliable as Squidoo.

Agree with Patricia, great lens but never rely on a third party, best to have your own moneysite. Squidoo should be part of your overall backlinking campaign.

You are right, but many newbies don't have money to invest, and often do not know how to build a site, so Squidoo is a great alternative in my opinion.

I find it amazing that she received so many visitors and earnings of course.

it's not hard to get that many visitors on squidoo. However, I don't think that lens was very helpful. I think it's sole purpose was to get people to click on that affiliate link.

Yes, don't put all of your eggs in one basket - especially if the basket isn't yours. That said, if you have a bunch of baskets pointing at your golden egg that help others find it, then that's great! You've created an 'egg-wheel' designed to drive traffic to the big golden one.

    thanks for the share!

    Hi there,

I'm sorry but have to agree with the majority of not using squidoo as a single source.

What I will say if you create a lens with a backlink to your site then ping it, google usually indexes Squidoo really fast, which in turn means that backlink is counted really fast and if it's a good lens will improve your rankings

    Hope this helps!

For me...articles have been great source of traffic. While I never managed to get Squidoo to so many visitors, it is awesome to know that Squidoo - can still bring in the traffic.

Good informative article. But if we did not market the article it is hard to get enough traffic. I think marketing of an article is more important than the submission site.
