Should I sell my website that's making $1,400/month?

Hi there,

I have a website that has been making an average of $1,270 over the past 6 months and an average of $1,059 over the past 12 months. For the last two months, though, it's made $1,400/month and I think this trend will continue for several more months.

This is completely on autopilot from AdSense and affiliate sales. I haven't added anything new to the website in over 12 months, and I stopped moderating comments a few months ago. It really doesn't require any time or effort from me to pocket the revenue that it brings. But I'm not sure how much longer this will keep up, as I continue to neglect and ignore the site like this. 12 more months? 2 years? Longer? The niche isn't very competitive. Other sites in the niche are pretty bad. The reason I don't wanna work on the site anymore is because I have other things to do. Things that I enjoy.

The website focuses on Dubai, United Arab Emirates, so it's not easy to find a buyer at a decent price as it would be for a US-based site. However, I was offered $30K for it. But I'm not sure I should sell it, I don't really need the cash, but if I can get $38K or more for it, then it's worth it I think.

Any opinions on this?

I think $30K is a good offer for that website. Especially if you do not want to care about it. Have you tried Flippa? There you can sell the website for a good price.

Try doing a auction on flippa and see what kind of offers you get for that site. If any offer interests you then you can consider selling it.

Since you are averaging around $1000-$1400. You can easily sell your site for anything around $12k-18k. If you get lucky you might get some great deals

12k - 18k? man, people are offering 30k and he's not even selling.. he's looking for at least 38k.. hahaha..

But seriously, I don't know man, i think 30k should already be a damn good offer, you should have sell it.. if wanna look for anything higher - spend a mere $20 and have it listed on flippa.. hopefully you'll get a nice price over there..

      I'm just saying,

A 30 k offer for such a website is great. Take that money and use some of it to invest in new products, if you've successfully created a good website that makes 1400 a month, use the 30k to create 5 of those websites and sit back and relax

    I would sell it.

Though you aren't spending time working on it, you are obviously spending a lot of time thinking about it. It's like an open app consuming ur ram and cpu and reducing your overall performance.

Though you are not consciously thinking about it, it's an open loop. Once in a while u would want to check how much it made etc.

If you have lost the love for a project and if it is going to be a train wreck... Have an exit strategy. More than the money you are going to get its the time that is going to be freed up that is more valuable than the $30 k.

If you decide to sell the site based on my thoughts, I would like to know. Pm me.

    1400/mo, 30k offer.

You have two options in my mind: Sell or Expand.

A 30k offer is ~22 months profit which is great. If you choose not to sell, then you should pay someone to keep updating the website with new relevant content - specially if you have no interest in the website anymore.

Yeah, I've tried Flippa. That's where I got $30K. It wasn't a bid (the minimum bid was set at $35K), it was in PM after due diligence.

I'm not greedy or anything. But think about the numbers. If I keep the site for two more years, it would have brought $30K in revenue, and then I could sell it for another $30K. So, I gain $60K in two years instead of only $30K in those two years.

@joesh7384 & @wide, I like how you think. I think I might go this route. Can I cancel a Flippa auction after it gets a bid but before the end of the auction?

@chaoslinker007, you seem so confident, why's that?

@Deepak Media, I think more about the site now because I'm trying to sell it. Usually, I get so busy with other things, I only check the AdSense revenue once every few days. But yes, if you wanna look at it from a Buddhist perspective, I would be more mentally free without the site, but I'm not gonna sell at a loss to achieve nirvana.

As stated above by another person, buy some articles and put up over time. It'll take a slightly bit more time than ignoring it totally, but who knows, more content may bring even more traffic = even more money.

Yes this is correct, but you're looking at it wrong. You have to look at your opportunity cost as well.e You can use the 30k to reinvest in expanding your business You can be creating more than 60k in value within 2 years with the 30k.

However, if you don't need the capital, then you can keep it and expand.

Or you lose ... site revenues go up and they go down. You have no way of knowing which it will be. Changes in Google and other factors could cause revenue loss or gain.

30K is considerably more than the normal multiplier on Flippa. It's a good price. But if you want to keep it and continue making revenue and then selling it, that's what you should do. With some work, you may even be able to increase the current revenue.

That's one way to look at it, I'm assuming that you get the majority of your traffic from google? Assuming that you do what if they change their algo and your rankings drop? You may be hard pressed to get even $15K. Your call but $30 now is hard to pass up considering that you don't know what the future will bring to your site

Pardon my french, but why the hell would you sell a website that's making $1400/month on auto pilot?

That $$$ could go to so many other things like a mortgage, car, vacations, debt. etc...

Don't sell it, rinse and repeat my friend.

Depends on your circumstances, do you need cash for another project etc. If not then hold and treat the website as an asset. Anything producing profit should be kept (please take a look at a great book called Rich Dad, Poor Dad)

Why are you thinking of selling it? If it's truly on auto-pilot - or if I could hire minimal maintenance done...I wouldn't sell it unless I needed the money to invest in something else.

The limitation on area will have some effect on sales price - but it might only mean waiting to find the right buyer.

The only question is the adsense on the site - if you are doing anything (other projects) that might risk that adsense account, sell the site now while it's earning. If you aren't, another year or two of steadily increasing income could increase the selling price substantially.

So you make about 15,240 a year. If the site continues that for 5 years you will have banked 76,200. If you do not need to sell it, I would keep it. Amazing how quick people want the instant cash. I would look at the long term and not sell it. Also find someone to do the site maintance for you if you do not want to put the time in.

You probably think that rich people are greedy too? Hell, they worked their butts off, risked everything they had and you call that greedy?

I call that entrepreneurship... Who's the one staying up late every night working, who's the one making sacrifices? Who's the one working and busting their ass?

Wealth comes from hard work and their is no room for people who think that's being greedy. Do you think since he is so greedy that he should give you some? Are you waiting for a handout or are you waiting to say it's all a SCAM because you can't do it?

Man, I hate that word "GREEDY" because the people who use it are too selfish to make any sacrifices that could manifest into something bigger and they are too blind to see it. They would rather blame everything else around them. They blame the Government, they blame their boss, they blame everyone but themselves.

I think $30K is more than fair, especially since you don't really seem to be too personally attached to it, but I also think the suggestion to hire on a blogger and keep developing it is great too. Personally, I would choose the later and keep on with it, since at this point it isn't a massive amount of work on your part.

$30K is a good money already. If you don't have plans and interest in maintaining such website then it would be best to sell it now - the price is just right. You might regret if the value decreases in the following months because you don't care about it anymore.

I personally would hang on to this site. If it's hands off then it is a nice source of income each month which you can use to re-invest into your IM business.

That kind of money would open doors to some quality coaching in a different business mode like CPA, or could be used on new tools, services or for outsourcing tasks etc.

My theory is that once you are making a consistent $1,000 or more online each month, then it just becomes a case of using that money to scale it up big time!

I think your main concern is whether it will still be earning in the future. So, if that is the case then I suggest that you take an offer that is greater than or equal to $30k. That is a large sum of money and with it you can create new sites that you can sell again.

    Sell it.

Someone is offering you a price way above normal market value, so take your emotions out of it and sell. Most of the people telling you not to sell have probably never had a site making $1.4k a month - so are not really in a position to advise what to do with it.

Two years is a long time on the internet so a lot can change. Invest the capital into projects that are more profitable.

dude if i were you i would try and get some more revenue from the site, scale it up a bit more and see if you can get the site to produce a maximum revenue $3000 then see what people would be willing to pay for the site on flippa.

dont be greedy, but think of it as a real estate that people would want to buy from you at a good price, so far 30K is a good price... but scale it up more to generate some more revenue like i mentioned above then see

It would depend on how you built the site. If it's quality through and through, hold it. If it's a MFA you were throwing BMR links at to get it to rank... SELL!

Well if you dont need the cash then why are you not outsourcing someone to post a few articles each month and to do some small SEO. You could spend about 125 a month on it and it would probably grow to even a larger income. Then once its more established if you want to rid of it then you could possibly get even more.
