What's all the Fiverr hype about?

I have always never bothered with any micro gig related venture for this very reason, its all small time. It is however easy to set up and for some I guess its worth their while.

I sell short reports on fiverr. About 3 - 7 orders a day. It takes me 1min to upload and deliver. A little more effort, I could be getting 10 - 20 orders a day. That's pretty fine as I need just 20minutes to deliver 20 orders.

1 min to upload and deliver? Is there no turn around time there? Is there no fussing around with sending replies to messages and emails? Is there no waiting for payments and replies?

You could work 20 minutes a day with a 'real' IM venture and make hundreds while you sleep.

I can understand it for people that are just getting started online and they need some extra cash to help them sustain waiting out for their other sites to start making money. Or they are looking to help fund their bigger IM endeavors.

To me, fiverr is a good start to be an internet marketer.
When I knew that it is possible to make money online, I try so many different things from reading emails, seeing ads and spend much money with only one hope so I did not quit : make my first dollar that can be drawn.
At that time, I made my first money online from ciao, a review website but now, fiverr is the new ciao, fiverr convinces people that they CAN make money online.
You may not create thousand dollars a month but at least you know that it is possible to make money online

True...we all have different needs, some people need more evidence to build their confidence and i think fiverr provides that platform...I also made a little through Ciao and that got me started..

I never bothered with Fiverr either. I think it depends on the skills that you have already (so if you're pretty good at something you're selling you don't really exert too much effort) or if you're just selling specific products ready-made or you can easily make with minimal effort. Or if you can think of something unique and "crazy" that someone's willing to pay for. It's just not for me.

I think it attracts people similar to the "dollar store" or .99 store marketing....people are drawn to very low prices...so when its a set price....then go on there and see all the services they can get....they like it....or if sellers know they can profit off of $5 ...maybe upsell later...they can make money there as well....

I bought a cheap $5 article from her to try her out and I liked the work so much that I began working outside of fiverr with her.

Obviously it's almost impossible to make good money through fiverr alone. I think it's about networking and finding new clients. Or in my case finding new talent.

What are you learning when you fulfill a Fiverr sale? Nothing. It's some small simple task you already know how to do.

What if you took the time you currently spend managing and promoting your Fiverr gigs and used that to learn a skill or tool or invent your own business that brings in many times $5?

Making money is all about finding an angle.

That, and you are tied to your cash flow. You "do" the gigs, you get paid. You stop doing them, the money stops.

As far as the OP saying that one could spend the same "20 minutes per day" and make "hundreds while you sleep," you're just perpetuating a myth.

I think it's more for buyers than sellers, but if you can do the service in a minute or two and get good reviews and plenty of orders, you could potentially make a full time income without any significant start up money.

I've never used Fiverr as a vehicle to make money... not in the traditional way. I mean, after all is said and done... I think Fiverr pays the sellers about $4 for each gig. I agree with Tadresources that it's a great way for folks to "show their stuff" on the front end.

Case in point... I ordered an ebook cover a couple of days ago and when my payment was completed and I got to the page where your details are needed, there were 3 different upsells to choose from:

1. send you editable psd file: add $10

2. send the Flat Images version for 3D Cover order or the 3D Cover for Flat images Order: Add $5

3. make completed book cover design ready to print designs includes front back and spine: Add $50

So I spent $5 for an attractive cover ('cause that's the first thing a potential customer sees) to help me make $100's. Not a bad investment. And I'll build a relationship with this graphic artist just as Tadresources has done with her writer.

Just a look at another reason for the hype.

Great way to start for the newbie without the wherewithal to get into IM. All the positive comments here apply. There are few opportunities to get started online with nothing, and the benefits include the thrill of getting orders and making first money, however little. Especially because self-motivation is so hard to maintain on the journey into the IM world. This can motivate.

I wouldn't ask Why, but Why not?

I think Fiverr can be good for some exposure. I once bought an eBook cover for $5 and the guy did a great job. I turned around and had him do other work for me at a much higher hourly rate because I knew he could deliver.

Fiverr is not my main income. But it gives extra income to cover some bills. I have 3 VPs to run tools. Fiverr income covers those charges and bills for tools. Because we can offer common services for few bucks.

It's really not. There's no funnel. $7 is more than $5 and you can sell copies instantaneously without worrying about payments, messaging, etc.

I think you under estimate the power of fiver, would I sell my services on fiver yes I would, would I be doing the work my self - no, I would out source the work to a team in India, $3.20 a day for a graduate, they could easily do 10 - 30 gigs a day, that's easy $48 profit a day off one person, now ask your self is it worth having a ten man team for $480 profit a day. Also think of the potential of these guys working on your projects.

biggest drawbacks people have is the culture differences, let me explain, an individual from the UK/us would have to understand the culture to get 100% productivity out of their employees, now I don't mean the guy who you think you out source to (who does nothing but out source it again) I mean the guys who actually do the work.

There's an Irish guy on here that sells a WSO for selling link lists on fiverr. He reckons he's made 10's of thousands from doing it and that other people can to.

Since then though, there are many many duplicate gigs all pretty much selling the same thing. x amount of article sites, x amount of pligg sites etc etc etc.

The thing is using it as a side earner if you can. But if it takes up too much time and you're not getting enough back then like the OP says best to stick with some other IM thing that really earns you good money.

I agree. I would suggest to make a trusted list, that can buy your gigs and do the same for your people on the list. After, I would refund the money back. This should at least jumpstart you fivver gigs. It`s hard as it is, due to huge load of people making a gig everyday.

For me, fiverr is more about saving money than making money. I regularly use it for tasks that I would not be able to complete myself. Recently, I have used it for flyer distribution and CAD design and have been very happy with the results overall.
I also use the Chinese equivalent lisili.com which is even cheaper at just 15rmb per gig.
Are there any other fiverr alternatives out there other people like?

Fiverr is not IM business or you can not compare it with IM .. Fiverr is kind of doing small tasks as freelancer and get paid for that. One easy earning source if you don't have any investment or skills. As a start you can work on Fiverr just to create your base investment to enter in IM world or any other business.

Fiverr's a good place to go if your looking for cheap small jobs done. Some sellers are really reputable and some of the gigs on there are pretty cool. Like others have pointed out, a lot of fiverr earnings come from buyers when they resell things for much higher prices. Sellers can actually make some decent money with gig extras's, earning up to $50/gig.

I think one of the main reasons why Fiverr is successful in IM forums is simply because there are a lot of people who are looking to make a quick buck.

Honestly, when I first started lurking the Warrior Forum it was because I was in a terrible financial situation and I needed to make ends meat for rent and food (Food was definitely secondary lol). And Fiverr is an amazing way to make a few bucks an hour without professional level skills in certain fields. In essence, it can be a lifesaver for certain people and I still think its a great site.

On the other hand, I agree that it is a means to an ends, rather than a long-term plan.

I guess the $18k I made on Fiverr is some how a fake number since there is no way.

And I personally know a few dozen sellers that make $50-100k a year on Fiverr.

The same sellers post their job on my site and make a few thousand a month on my site.

I make 6 figures a year running my fiverr like site.

No way on earth huh? Just because you don't know how to upscale and use fiverr effectively and correctly does not mean there is "no way on earth" other people can't

I know most of the big players in the IM world. Most of them buy the software that I develop.

Most of the people that have a clue and know how to "ramp it up" not only use my software but are also smart enough to ramp up their gigs on the clones.

Dude this forum is all about IM and most of the IMers buy tools that work like a genie but they cost a monthly fee.

So to shed the cost load, these marketers monetize their tools for $5 so that others who cannot afford those tools can also take advantage of.

If you exclude 'money machine' and 'how I made $347527345072345 in just 20 minutes on Fiverr without taking a breath' - Fiverr is a good neighborhood where you ask anyone to clean your lawn for $5.

Actually you get $3.92 per gig. This is via pay pal and fiverr holds your hard earn money 20 days to prevent fraud - yes. It takes me over one hour per gig. Also, I get taxed at approx 40% so do the math on that one. Fiverr is great for users.

Fiverr can also be used to capture leads as well. Think about this. You sell a small report and make $4 from Fiverr. Sure it's not much cash BUT at the end of the report you send them to a squeeze page and capture their email and sell to them from then on out. Get them on your list and turn that $4 profit and 1 minute to upload a report into repeat sales for life.

Here's the Hype behind Fiverr

1 - People are cheap and think they're getting quality work done for $5.
2 - People for some reason think they can build a quality and profitable business off of the delivered cheap products.
3 - Contractors work there because they think they can just churn out quick crap work and make good money.

I have actually had pretty good success working with people on FIVERR, but I am not really interested in selling gigs there for the reasons already mentioned.

Use FIVERR for what it is worth, $5.

Fiverr can serve most marketers (especially beginners) as a "working capital" cash generator to make some upfront money, while they are waiting for their major income centers to produce. Making that early money can provide a person with morale-boosting motivation to stay with online work, long enough to see the bigger money later.

It's all well and good to talk about how much more can be earned doing other things, but for most folks, there's a learning curve involved in creating serious cash from IM, and most of that manifests itself in the form of NO MONEY in the interim. Fiverr and other more active methods can fill the $ gap until the major income centers kick in.

- $4 is almost nothing for people living in developed countries, indeed.
This sum is however significant for ones who live in developing countries ($50 monthly salary!).

- For marketers living in developed countries, besides of other purposes already mentionned, you may also use it for upselling, crosselling (and as buyers, effectively).

I dont think there are developing countries where salaries are as low as $50 per month. Thats just too low. However, $30 per day is still a decent income for people living in these countries. In fact, that is as much as a salary of a software engineer.

The real fuss about Fiverr is that you can sell information products on there and make pretty good money from it. Sure it is only $5, but all those $5 add up now don't they? It is all about the multiplication, not about the individual sales themselves.

That is largely true, but there are quite a few people who deliver thousands of gigs per month and they spend only a couple of hours a day doing it. Its a decent way to earn 1.5K to 2K per month.

I think you are unaware & your thinking is small. Earnings in Fiverr is not limited to $4 you can easily extend it to $20 or $40 once you are in level 2 & above all it's the quantity which matters I know many people who earns $500 a day pure profit from fiver & sometime ago even I was pretty active seller there but I have to quiet as I own many sites now.
But still it's a great place for newbies.

I never liked the Fiverr but it do break lot of sterotypes, majority of people are from Europe but that doesn't mean the services are outstanding or anything like that..Majority of my experience with Fiverr was below average. As far as Internet Marketing is concerned you can expect worst services on planet.

And you can't make decent money from. The only way you can decent money from Fiverr is selling stupid WSO like "Make millions from Fiverr" etc.

What I think people are missing is that the real people making money from Fiverr arent doing gigs on there, they are buying gigs after they have sold it somewhere else for a far higher price.

You find some gigs with good feedback and quality work, promote it elsewhere and get paid through your own payment solution, then go buy the gig on Fiverr.

Simple to do, hardly any work and can make $45 or more for each gig!

The top seller on fiverr is easily making $300 to $500 sales a day.

He sells social media link blasts to his diverse followers.

Now, granted, that's not easy to replicate, but I did my own case study where I proved I could also make at least $100 a day.

Fiverr is a goldmine if you know what the heck you're doing.

If you think about it...its buyer traffic and the platform is already half done for you...plus...there are no setup fees and fiverr pays the highest JV commissions you'll find in the IM world...80%.

You gotta use your noggin and try to see it from a different angle.

Consider this....the top sellers on fiverr are NEVER featured....why is that.

Chew on that for a bit or feel free to ask, lol.

Fiverr is better for me as a customer, but it's actually feasible for people who want to make money.

Now; you are trading time for money unless you can automate the delivery of something But I'd wager the majority of Fiverr sales are made by people offering services.

Also consider the potential to create upsells using Fiverr; makes everything more appealing to offer upgraded services with ability for more money, right?

PS: I used to have a few gigs that actually got an active quantity of sales, but failed to automate them and eventually pulled the plug, so I understand your trepidation. (For those wondering, I was just advertising on my massive array of Twitter accounts, would have been worth it if the paid tweets were automated).

There is no doubt that you can make a decent amount of money in fiverr. I understand that some people here believe that it just don't worth their time and that it's not really "Internet Marketing", but as a fiverr seller which deals a lot with automation and outsourcing, I can tell you that if you'll plan ahead before starting, your gigs can easily turn into automated cash machines.

Actually, I thought about this very similar until I've stumbled over Eugeni0 (writeaway) here on the WarriorForum. We did a Podcast and a written interview about that question.
Obviously Fiverr can be a great jump start for your online business. At the beginning you need to talk to people and invest a lot of time, over-deliver, etc to make them trust you. Once you did that, things become easier and you live from the reputation. Also, when you try to sell other services then, it becomes much easier.
Additionally, website traffic will increase and this time you do not need to pay for it but get paid for it... so there are many ways how to make Fiverr worth your time. I'm not an expert nor do I do anything there myself but I totally enjoyed the interview and I think it is another way to make money online.

What if the task took you only 10 minutes to fully do? That's $24 an hour. Most people would love that kind of hourly wage especially by being in their pajamas at home. The key is to finding an in-demand gig that won't take much time to complete. Upselling is also very underrated by new guys.

Tomer, I agree. That works just fine - $24 per hour is much more than most Internet Marketers make (i know there is more to make but until you are at this point i think that is a nice rate)
beside that, you can offer additional services such as fast delivery and easily earn +20$ doing that...
or you make a new service, e.g. you build reputation with a service, get them to your website, build a list and offer on fiverr sending out ads to your list (good ones of course) so i guess that is how you make more money on fiverr just to give some ideas

In china for example micro tasking translates into “威客网” in Chinese where the idea is catching on fast.

Fiverr is not hyped up. It is the real deal. You can make money as a seller or a reseller. The bigger money is in RESALE. For example, you have an SEO company and you resell writing and SOME link building (stay away from spammy automated gigs).

There are people getting rich on fiverr ...check out some of the top sellers over there...

I personally don't like to scale biz in fiverr. it pays my over head and that is about it...

If you are really wanting to get rich with Fiverr then you are going to want to check out their Affiliate program...I have heard of people that are doing 5k day...

I am pretty sure that you are going to get paid about 10-15 per CPA that is a lot better then working on fiverr as you can avoid the lame fiverr and paypal fees at the same time and make a killing.

My sentiments exactly, Harvey. I wish all of the Fiverr threads were in their own forum room. I really think they take up too much space on this forum.

Fiverr supports and encourages a 'nickel and dime' mentality. You get what you pay for. Period.

I outsource quite a bit of my material and work, and always pay my people what they're worth. The return on my investment is ten-fold or more.

Harvey there is too much stupidity in the world. For example many say majority are from India, Philippines on fiverr but actually if look through closely majority of people are from developed part of Europe and USA. Now logically this doesn't make sense why someone from developed country will work for $5 but the thing is its about instant gratification of making money online. For example if you go by affiliate road you may not make a single penny but in case of fiverr it is instant.

Also with recent changes in fiverr its really isn't cheap. Now fiverr has extra services option and if you go through services like lets say cheap voice over. You will see how cleverly they put majority in extra services and you actually end up spending 100's of dollars. So things really aren't what they seem to be.
