Noob Question Selling Plugins

So I have a plugin developed ready to be sold as a WSO for example. How do I sell a version with a PLR licence and one with just standard access? How can I determine what the buyers can and cannot do with the plugin?

for example:
[YES] Can be used for personal use
[YES] Can be installed on your clients sites
[NO] Can be packaged
[NO] Can be offered as a bonus
[NO] Can be branded with your information
[NO] Can be submitted to software directories
[NO] Can be added to paid membership sites
[NO] Can be offered through auction sites
[NO] Can sell Resale Rights
[NO] Can sell Master Resale Rights

Any and all info is well received and appreciated!

You descide what they can and can not do. With PLR they should be able to do pretty much anything they want except maybe sell it as a WSO or sell it as a PLR. It's up to you.

Thanks for the info. That's what I thought, but wasn't sure how to actually enforce it.

        Good luck with that.

Unless you build some "license limitations" into the plugin either by limiting functions or using a "call home" check then you really have to rely on the buyer honesty. In most cases that will be absolutely fine as most buyer are completely honest. You will always get oddities that don't want to pay or are happy to abuse/distribute/resell you products but in my experience they are a tiny minority.

As with most digital products you will need to accept a level of "abuse". Often the losses are far less than the cost of a solution.

If you offer licence options that allow anyone to buy "the product that will allow them to do what hey want" then most will simply buy that licence, even it cost them more.

Where it gets more of a problem is where you do not offer the options that people want.
        good luck

Like Tony said, definitely add a call back function for licensing, this way you can guarantee they are not installing on a million domains they didn't pay for. And the best advice I can give you is encode your work, don't let people steal it!

PM me if you would like some help on the Licensing callback function.

One thing to remember, if you do a "call home" function, your customer support will increase. Not saying it's a bad thing, just saying, be prepared to be helping more customers.

this is all great info. licensing sounds like a much better way to protect your assets, but also increased work/support needed. im going to get some experience with putting out some plr plugins first and then reinvest the time/money into licensing options.

    follow up question:
going to encode it using something like zencrypt. so would it be alright to sell an encoded plugin with PLR rights and then a non-encoded version as a "developer license"? Is that how it works?

With PLR rights, buyers of course should have the option to edit or brand the plug-in. I don't know much about encoding, but would that still be possible? Guess if you just encoded the main code you should be fine. Right?
