How do I get files uploaded via FTP?

I am aware I sound remedial, but I am flummoxed well and truly. I have some pages I want to upload via FTP to a domain. I've added in my opt-in forms and am ready to go. However, I'm totally confused on where to place them within the server. The domain it's going to is an addon within my main domain hosting on HG and I am lost. I thought I uploaded it to public HTML, but when I check it, none of the images on the page show up. It's weird. So. Help? Please?

    Charlotte,

There is normally a seperate folder for images. Not knowing how you have structured your site, it would be difficult for me tell you exactly where the images should be. Did you upload the images as well?

I'm sure someone here will be able to help you, but in case they don't, the best thing to do is call you Hosting customer service and they should be able to help you do that in just a couple of minutes.

It usually very easy, it's just a matter of know the exact steps.

    hi Charlotte,

you most likely need to create a directory in your public_html called "images" and upload the images there. However your files are in your computer, re-create the hierarchy on your server if you know what I mean.

Sometimes templates have a separate folder for the CSS files too, so make sure you have that there too, otherwise your site's images won't work either.

you also may need to change permissions on your images files. It has happened on some servers, it is rare though.
If so when you FTP, select all the images, right click and change permissions to "666" (read/write for all three)

Hi Charlotte - check the code on your page where you want the image to appear, to make sure it matches where on your hosting you uploaded the images via FTP. So if you put the images in a folder called /images. the full path to the images would be http://yourdomain.com/images/imagename.jpg

If you just uploaded them in the public_html folder in your FTP; then the path would simply be: http://yourdomain.com/imagename.jpg. You do NOT the /public_html in there anyway.

It's very possible, depending on how your web site page is setup, to only put the image file name on the page, or simply /images/imagename.jpg and it will know to put the domain name before it.

Hope that helps! If not, post more details so we can help you.

Now your problem is solved. You can hire someone for uploading ftp files for you. But its good if you practice yourself. More time you invest more you will learn.
