Normal Email List Conversion Rate?

im wondering what the normal conversion rate would be for a email list. I have a small list of around 200 people and im getting a 50%-80% open rate according to aweber. The list is new and really I have only had it for about 2 weeks now.

But my list is growing with 20-30 new double opt in's per day. So im pretty excited about where im headed with this. I have heard that a good conversion rate would b 2-5% but I have also heard of people getting 50% conversion rates.

So im wondering what some warriors here get. Obviously if im getting a 50-80% open rate with 20-30 new opt in's per day I will have a decent little list going on soon.

Now if I can get even say a 10-20% buy rate that would be amazing! So far I have provided my list with really good information, in fact today I spent around 4 hours writing a really good informative email for them.

Now im at the point of launching a cheap membership site as well as a few products. My next offer in 4 days will be the membership site for only $7.99 a month. I feel pretty good about it.

I read a guide a while back from a guy claiming to be getting like a 65% buy rate on the emails he sent out. How rare is it to have such a responsive list like this? Thanks

The figure that I often see quoted is that a properly built list will net you $1 for each subscriber, every month. In other words, a proper list of 1,000 subscribers will net you $1,000 a month in revenue.

Thanks George. Thats what I hear also usually. But I do also hear about people making thousands off smaller list also.

I know its all about the relationship with your readers and giving them great info. I really feel like I have been doing that with my list so far.

I don't think you can generalize about what a "normal email list conversion" rate is.

It will vary dramatically depending on what you are selling and how responsive your list is.

I'd say that if you are getting an 50-80% open rate for your follow up emails, you must be providing some pretty good info and your list may be responsive.

Also, it's not so much how many people are on that list as how many buy and how much they spend.

For example, if I have a list of 500 very responsive people and I'm selling a membership site that pays me $50 per month and 20% of the list buys, that's $5,000 per month from only 500 people, or $10 per subscriber.

Good luck with your list ... sounds like you're off to a good start.

There is no normal conversion rate for email. There are many factors to consider... you'll need to do a lot of testing to consider what your "average" conversion rate is.

Sounds like you're well on your way, though. Good job!

Corey it sounds like you are building a brilliant list - if you can keep that open rate up as well as your opt-in rate you are going to be very pleased with your results!

My best advice to keep your list alive is to always give your subscribers a chance to act on your emails - give them a link to click, or a free report to download, or a sales link, or a link to a great website you have found (it doesn't have to be a sales link!!). What this does is gets your list used to acting on your emails - not just reading when the sales links appear, people are used to responding by clicking.

Just my 2 cents worth, but it seems to work well for me!

Those kinds of open rates and CTR are only possible with small lists. Once you cross 10k then that rate will drop down a lot. My current open rate is about 20% and the CTR is about 14%

thanks alot guys So basically its all just a numbers game. I just need to treat my list right like im doing so far and keep on building while mixing in offer about 25% of the time.

Hmm, so its possible to have high conversion rates with a small list rather than a large list. I think im going to offer my membership site next mailing and see what happens
