Timeline Templates for pages??

Hey,

I just don't get this. Facebook is making all these crazy changes and forcing people into Timeline. It's VERY confusing what to do next. I guess I am not understanding Facebook these days.

Here is my question: With the way Facebook has changed the rules, how is it possible to have templates that basically don't look like timelines at all?

Also, Facebook has dictated what can and can't be on the page. i.e. no asking for likes,
no website url??? But I am seeing templates that have opt-ins, etc....

What am I missing here? I guess the only thing I can think of is that these templates aren't for the Home page? (which Facebook now dictates, and has taken away the user's ability to specify a default tab)

Can anybody shed some [true] light on this?- I'm really bugged by what Facebook is saying can or can not show or where. How will using templates to create the new timeline pages help my clients if they are breaking the rules??

You can't ask for likes or put your website url on your cover photo. However, these restrictions to do not apply to your tabs. All pages will default to the new Timeline, unless Facebook decides to change this. You just have to be creative with the images for your tabs and use of pinned posts.

Your clients will not be breaking any rules, if you follow the guidelines - keep the cover photo clean(no call to action, URLs etc). Clients can link to the app URL, which is used for tabs(like the one in my sig), instead of the main page URL.

I haven't checked out your FB apps thread yet, but I will.

As far as being creative with the tabs goes, you have to play around with the text on the tab image and the actual name of the tab. So, if the name of the tab is "Welcome", the text on the tab image doesn't have to be "Welcome" as well, it can be something more interesting. Then, I suggest creating a pinned post with a link to your most important tab(s) and of course, linking to the actual tab from outside Facebook.

    Stormwebnet,

I am still trying to figure out if creative contests and promos will be allowed on the tabs. For example, Namecheap ran a "Like us" to 10,000 new fans and we will give a special price on domain name registration.

Another example is where, there is a reveal page or coupon code that you can only get if you "like" the page.

Do you think these will still work? So far, I haven't heard of a specific rule against it. It would seem to totally defeat the purpose if businesses can't get more business by offering these promos. Why be on Facebook at all if you can't monetize it? Branding? maybe- but I don't see the value there. Customers need incentives. And businesses need cost effective ways to get customers. They aren't on facebook to say "Hey look at me" , or "what did our customer have for dinner?" or how does your kid look?".

I am still thinking of how to get that tangible ROI for my clients. Contests and Coupons were viable options.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks,
    MissTR
