    Hey Kevin,

I've been looking into this too. If you have a wordpress site there is some good plugins you can use. You can do a quick google search for wordpress membership sites, it will give you some options.

People make good money selling to the rich. But the rich got rich selling to the masses.

Love Jason Flads WP Memberchamp Plugin.

As far as training goes. My favorite course still today is by Jimmy D Brown called Membernair. Robert Plank also has Membership Cube.

I wrote an older blog post about them: How to Start Your Own Membership Site | maketheworldyourstage.com

If you're after low-tech then Jimmy D. Brown has Membernaire.

Other people I can think of are Ryan Lee (from Nanocontinuity), Robert Plank & Lance Tamashiro (of Membershipcube).

Then you have the print letter memberships (think Dan Kennedy) but don't know of anyone who teaches this model.

Personally for software I recommend Rapid Residual Pro by Steve Odette. Besides that RRP is a great software, I've been using it on a few sites now, not only for membership sites, but also for selling different one-off products from one marketplace.

E Brian Rose has a good system for this called the EBR Gameplan. I'd recommend having a look.

    Kevin...

Starting a membership site means different things to different people.

I've been working on a model of setting up a membership site that is made up of only free reports for affiliate marketers - all centered around one market or niche connected to each other.

Personally, the FTM (Fixed Term Membership) model or Micro-Continuity version of an FTM with a free front end have both proven very profitable for me and my clients over the years.

Traditional membership sites also have their place though attrition rates across the board for most niches are roughly 90 days... some more, some less but that's the normal consensus and experience among those of us who've set them up over the years.

Your market matters - and don't let anyone tell you differently.

Training underwater snails might be unique and nobody else is doing it - but how many people will buy the program, right?

Likewise, creating the absolute best membership site in a popular niche may be a big mistake - making a splash in a pond full of already splashing monsters doesn't get the attention you may need to succeed.

Be different, unique, look deeply at what you are trying to accomplish and what it will take to get the results you want - then plan it out.

In the end, the platform you use is so much less important than the offer you make, the need you feed or the problem you solve... obviously, the right platform can help you and you want to build your business on a solid platform that can handle your current business, grow with your success and scale as you evolve, but who cares how solid the platform is if the idea and market, if the offer, does not have current and future market potential?

If you want to brainstorm some of your ideas I'd be happy to spend a few minutes with you to help flesh out what you are trying to accomplish.

PM me - if you're interested...

    Steve
