what should postage cost be?

Hello

New to this ive been recommended onto this site through a friend who says its very helpful for great advice and guidance

Ive building a website which includes suppliers providing me goods. I did want to offer free delivery but some suppliers cant increase the retail prices to cover their costs so i think ill have to add postage onto customer orders at the checkout..

What is the reasonable amount to add for customer? Suppliers will have to tweak their prices slightly if they need to cover costs but i charge £3.99 flat rate delivery to go on top of customers orders will this make them 'abandon their shopping basket'or continue to complete the other whether its one example say candles or close off my site?

thank you

Our products are sent by mail and prices sure vary depending on where the product is going and how big and heavy the pkg is. It's always more than I hope it will be! We include shipping in our costs up front, and we tried to average it for all possible destinations in Canada. Sometimes we win, sometimes they win. I would like to separate out postage from our costs that are displayed on our site, and have shipping as a flat rate, yet to be determined. This is a tough call and I am not a lot of help to you, but wanted you to know you are not the only one who struggles with this.

    Hi Quirkie,

I'm guessing from the fact that you mention a price in £'s that you're in the UK?

Anyway, postage costs are going to depend on the weight and distance, aren't they? International postage is far more expensive than within-UK postage (and may even need different packaging, too, depending on the goods enclosed).

Most UK businesses who send goods by post have at least two different rates (often three), for UK/EU and "other countries".

    Hi

Yes based in the UK. Im thinking maybe the asking price could include the delivery. For now products will be shipped in the UK only if i can just build this into my website. Its exciting i just want to please the customers buying the products and also please the suppliers dropshipping knowone takes a hit on either bank balance
