How To Make a POWERFUL "Mega-Article" That Will Get Linked To?

Okay first off sorry for that title. I've had a few too many glasses of wine and, well, I'm not too much of a good title-writer even when sober.

What I would like to do is create a detailed "mega" article related to my business which provides rich content for readers, and most importantly, GETS LINKED TO time and time again.

My ultimate goal is for the blog, lens or hub to gain popularity and establish a nice PR so that I can link it to my website.

What I need to know is the following:

1. What kind of site would be best for this? A blog, a Squidoo lens, a Hub, or something else? I understand it may be beneficial to submit to all, but which of these would be best for my application? (A one-page "mega" article packed with valuable info)

2. Once I have everything set up, what are the BEST ways to make the page easy to link to? The thought that my blog, lens, or hub may not be optimally set up for traffic and linking scares the hell out of me. It seems as if there are so many ways to set them up optimally, and I just get confused)

Thanks for any and all help!

Tim

Personally, I think blogs are perceived as more authentic, so I'd go with that. Do the mega article on the blog, then re-write it a little different and submit it to article directories, hubs, lenses, etc and have them link back to the blog.

Then submit the blog to Social Bookmarking and Networking sites like stumbleupon, del.icio.us, reddit, digg, etc.

That's not an all-inclusive link building strategy, but it should get you started. After all that is said and done start posting the link to the blog/article/whatever to 'dofollow' forums and blogs to get more backlinks.

Just keep the content of the article fresh and evergreen, or timeless.

If your blog is on a registered domain, get Google Analytics on there to track your traffic.

What kind of wine are you sipping on?

Awesome thanks for the response. That answer provided all that I was looking for!

I'm actually sipping on some pretty crappy Sutter Home Cab. Sav. because that was the only thing available. It's been awhile since I drank anything so I'm feeling pretty nice.

    Thanks again!

I just remembered I have another quick question:

When selecting a main keyword phrase for this kind of article, should I go for a targeted, long-tail keyword to get an immediate landing on Google for a particular phrase?

Or should I look at it long-term and go for a more broad, popular term since I plan on establishing a solid page rank and overall authority for the page?

    Thanks,

    Tim

As far as I know long tail keywords are too hard to determine regarding the actual phrases people use when they do a search.

Target broad in general, I'd say. But keep adding unique content. You can take your original articles and spin them in different ways.

Google Analytics lets you see where you traffic is coming from and what keywords your visitors are using to get to your site. Once you know how they're getting there, you have a better chance of leveraging that knowledge.

Just keep your content fresh, consistent and relevant.

And use this tool for keyword ideas:

Hope that helps and good luck

    Thanks a lot again!

I'm definitely going for the "timeless" over the "fresh" in this case haha.

I write articles every week to provide fresh content, but for this one I'm looking more to establish a "one-shot deal" kinda thing that will stick and stay as a source of information for a long time.

So with your advice I think I will definitely go for the more broad term.

    Thanks!

Timeless and evergreen is the way to go for sure, but don't discount fresh. People love fresh content.

    Good luck with everything

First, the quality needs to be very high. Next, put it on your website. Third, release 'stripped down' versions to the various article directories, with instructions to visit your site for the 'rest of the article'. Make sure your article subs are unique each time. Do a little promotion on the forums in teh same way. Wait.

Here's what I'd do. Write two high-quality articles. One for your blog and the other for article directories. Submit one of them to as many article directories as you can. I understand that people go nuts over the 'multiple submission' debate, but I can tell you from personal experience that I've gotten placement in the first four pages of Google posting the same three articles to hundreds of directories. And they're maintaining their position nicely.

It only took a week or so to get positioned on these first four pages. If your niche is more competitive, expect it to take a bit longer but the multiple submission strategy seems to get the ball rolling faster. I learned this strategy from a very successful "Lazy Super Affiliate" (see sig) and it's been working very well.

If your goal is to promote your blog, point the link in your resource box to the blog where people will have access to the second high-quality article.

Also realize that once you deliver great content, people will come to expect it from you. And they'll return looking for more and better info. But I guess that's what this game is all about. ;o) Good luck!
