WSO may be scuppered I need to know

Before I start working on my new wso.

I need to know roughly what percentage of warriors are using office 2007.

I have plans for a new wso but it needs excel 2007 to open. Or anyone with 2003 or open office would have to download a compability package.

Does any know a good guess? What are you using

If it can work with the compatability package, then I would suggest you ensure this is clearly explained, give them the links to download it etc, shouldn't be a problem then

    Cheers

I don't have 2003 so I can't test 100% that the item which will be data on a excel 2007 spreadsheet will open with the compatabilty package.

Which is why I would prefer that the majority of my potential customers have 2007

Remember too that an awful lot of newbies might use a free option like Open Office [www . open office . org] so I would test it in that to.

Sorry I cant post url's yet.

That's where you may have problems then cos I would imagine many people are still using 2003, I do myself. May be an idea to try and get yourself a copy from ebay or something and test it out on another computer

      Cheers

When you save in 2007 why don't you just choose the compatibility with 97-03 option? Then anybody with an earlier version can open it.

          Good call Martin,

I have a client that had the same problem.

I mentioned that option to her, she didn't even know
you could save it different ways.

She started doing that and it worked fine.

I use 2000 by the way.
I have the compatibility package and it works fine
          also.

I use open office 3.0.1 or Google doc to open XLS files. I wouldn't be too keen of having to install or download anything extra to open the file so you would really need to sell that in your copy.

using 2007; a lot of my clients use compatibility package.

You'll have to test if your spreadsheet still works with the compatibility package though
