Is there way to monetize wordpress.com(free one) ?

I was wondering is there a way to monetize wordpress.com. For example is it good place to build a list and sell your own products? Do you use this platform? I believe that affiliate programmes and adsense are not allowed.

What is the best way to take advantage of this platform after all it is free. What other possibilities are there? and we allowed to build as many of these as we wish or is the number restricted?

Is anyone using this to build their list or sell their own products and are there any other free platforms like this?

Would appreciate any input from you guys.

your best method of action would be to download wordpress for free from the wordpress site and install it on your own server. You can do adsense, affiliate ads, sell ad space......its all up to you.

Dont use the one at wordpress.com, download it as this way you will have alot more control and flexibility to do as you wish with it.

You have unlimited use of wordpress on however many sites you wish to use it on, there are also infinite free wordpress themes available to customize your look. Also tons and tons of plugins, even autoresponder, subscriber capture plugins for you to build your list. Do some research and see what you find.

    HI,

If you want to make a serious commitment and earn money online, I don't recommend it.

Soon after you get started you'll run against many limitations -in everything from the plugins that make WP powerful and the IM functions that can earn you good money. Hosted WP MU (ie. Wordpress.com) does not allow a lot of the functions you'll get to learn about.

My suggestion is for you to get a good domain, install WordPress CMS on the domain at a shared hosting account and learn to monetize your site with what Warriors discuss here.

This is how I got started on my blog - I started with a 2-column theme and just a few pages, and kept expanding from there to an entire community.

    Success,
    Sam

Thanks for your replies guys. I hear what you are saying about having your own hosted site which is true. But I was wondering if there was some way of leveraging the free WP site host. It has the advantage of a good page rank and authority.

My theory is if you stick within their rules and don't indulge in blatant advertising, no affiliate advertising then you can get links, build a list and sell your product. Is this a waste of time?

I have not tried it yet but I am going to give a go to see what happens. Has anyone tried it with any success or otherwise?

    Hi Mad-Av,

You can always try, but you'll miss a lot of the monitization possibilities Wordpress offers you.
Adding to what was told to you before: you can download the whole Wordpress surrounding effortlessly from WordPress › Blog Tool and Publishing Platform (NOT WordPress.com Get a Free Blog Here), and then fit in all the nice Wordpress plugins you can find (for instance Adsense). Which will make your life a lot easier.

    Yours, wordpressly, Ed

The best use of a WP.com blog is to create a legit blog or blogs that you can use to funnel traffic and create links to other sites that make you money.

It is also good for writing about topics that you have a passion for but aren't easily monetizable. For example, if you liked to write about "military mules during WWII" this would be a way for you to do it without having to invest in a domain and so forth. The bonus would be that you could use links from that blog to support sites where you were monetized with equine and military affiliate offers or product sales.

Echo the sentiment sof the other respondents. Always better to use wordpress.org and set your blog up on your own domain name rather than
    xxxx.w...press.com.

You will be able to build your own web identity and presence and be better placed withing search environments too.

Also a huge number of themes asre availabkle for you to download and use too.

What is the best place to get the themes since it seems there are thousands of sites with them. Has anyone filtered them out and come across a couple of good sources.

I use a good aweber plugin that forces people into my aweber account when they either register or leave a post. I also use Action optin which is not free, but nearly free. check it out on my site. Action Optin is on the right side and the aweber plug can be seen if you try to leave a comment. It says "would you like to subscribe to our bolg? with a check box. When they leave a comment it adds them to my aweber acct. The Action Optin is a script that make the optin box disappear when the user clicks "subscribe" thus keeping them on the same page instead of forwarding to another page.

use the thumbnails as your guide on the template sites for deciding which to use. There is no one place that has the best templates as there are like literally thousands of templates all over the web. id say check wordpress.com as your starting point though.

I'm here to tell ya I respectfully disagree with the rest of the people replying.

I use wordpress.com as if it was my own domain.

    it's just a subdomain.

I sell a product (ebook) from it, it is performing re: seo where I want it to perform.

I make money from it every single week.

I find no benefit to paying to get a 'real' hosting account (for this particular product)

I'm NOT about to tell you what it is because I don't want my niche ripped off.

    here's a hint:

    wordpress.com/tag/ what-ever

you can't tell me that those are not the best placeholders from an SEO standpoint that you're gonna get... and they are free

I would think that the best way to do this would be to download wordpress program for free and install it on your own server. This would probably give a greater range for other alternatives such as affiliate ads and adsense, and then you can tailor it specifically to your own needs. Download the program directly from the wordpress site, this will give you much more control than running it on a server.

The great thing about wordpress is that there are loads of free themes to choose from as well as free plugins. You can setup your own list building capture pages as well to broaden your contacts. Hope this helps you!

You'll get no argument out of me about it being better to get WP on your own domain.

That isn't what the question was.

If I read this right, madison_avenue said he has a wordpress.com site already. He asked what can be done to monetize it.

ie. if you got one, what else can you do with it?

I'm saying I make money with one of mine, not enough to write home about, not enough to pay my bills with it, but it's there and I make sales with it.

    it can be done.

you can't make extra lunch money with adsense with it.
    there's a lot of things you can't do with a WP.com

but I sell stuff with them.

and they rank in SEO for me.

it's just a tool, a wp.org on your own server can do a lot of things a wp.com can't but if you got a wp.com, use it.

and I blatantly advertise my product with it, they aren't merely toys to be ignored.
