How do you set subscribers expectations?

I read about how it's important to set your subscribers expectations of what they are going to receive from you. If your subscribers are opting in to receive a free report, how do you set expectations on what they are going to receive from your email series? Thank you.

    Let them know in the first couple emails, make them want to stick around because there's more value to come. This will help prevent them from unsubscribing as soon as they get their freebie.

    I generally put this in the confirmation email. So I'll go something along the lines of....

    "Thanks for subscribing. I'd like to send you updates on X, Y and Z (X, Y and Z being where I set their expectations). However, before you can get access you need to confirm using the link below.
