Do Aussies search at Google.com or Google.com.au?

I was asked a question today as to where most Aussies search at? Is it Google.com or Google.com.au?

Now my thinking is that a large percentage search at Google.com.au as google detects the IP address and automatically redirects you to .com.au if you type in .com. Anyway there is a way around this but I wouldn't think that a lot of people would do it.

Is there a way I would be able to find some statistics as to what Google search engine Aussies use?

I am not personally from Australia, but when i don't find my answer on my search engine i look into google.com. So it is possible that a large percent of them to use google.com

Usually it redirects you but lately for me, if I use the .com domain it doesn't redirect me, but it does provide a link at the bottom right corner of the page asking me if I would like to visit the .au portal. It works in reverse as well.

If I type 'google.com' into the browser window it will redirect me to 'google.com.au'.

So most aussies will use the .au domain.

As an Aussie, I am always redirected to the .com.au version but sometimes I will use http://www.google.com/ncr which is the version of Google with NO country redirect.

.au is going to be a bit more relevant for Aussies, but you find the results from .com are normally just as good. Even more accurate if you include Australia as one of your search terms

One of my clients asked me. You could say I was a bit off guard but what I told him is no doubt correct. "A massive percentage of Aussies would use google.com.au."

    Hi All

I have a quick question re: the Google Keyword Tool that I am hoping someone can answer for me that involves the Australia .com and .com.au issue... I did a search to see if it had already been answered but it doesn't look like the question has been asked before and if it has I apologise.

if I run an exact keyword search and I specify Australia as my location where people can use either Google.com or Google.com.au as their preferred search engine....so are the local search results showing people that use Google.com as their search engine in Australia or people that use Google.com.au (Google Australia) as their search engine or are the local search results a combination of both Google.com and Google Australia.com.au?

I am trying to get keyword search results for Australia wide only .... and am trying to figure out if I can use the global search results that come up even though I have specified Australia only as my location ( which I assume I could do if the results are from Google.com and not Google.com.au) or if I have to use the local search results ( which I would have to do if the results are from Google.com.au)

    Thanks for all your help
