Hosting Issue - Need Advice on what to do.

I just got this email (in italics below) from my current hosting company (site5). I moved my site to them because they offered free site transfer back then now I'm told that I'm consuming too much resources.

Now I have to choose to Upgrade to VPS and pay $53 per month with them ( Site 5)
Cores:2 Memory:756MB Disk Space:35GB Bandwidth: 600GB

I'm also considering other VPS Hosting plans with other companies

or Godaddy: $27 per month
OS: Linux CentOS RAM: 1 GB Storage: 20 GB Bandwidth: 500 GB/mon

or Hostgator: $ 40 per month
CPU: 1.13 GHZ Ram: 768 MB Diskspace: 30 GB Bandwidth: 500 GB

I'm trying to avoid the hassle of moving my site and also paying to move it, I'm also thinking of the cost, I also want a host that would not give me problem.

Godaddy seems to be the cheapest.

Please I need your advice, Thanks

Host's Email

I've reviewed your resource usage at this time and, unfortunately, it remains much too high for shared hosting. Your website is currently utilizing over 11% of the available CPU time on the server, and is receiving over 36,000 unique hits per month.

Unfortunately, your resource usage is simply too high and we will not be able to allow your site to remain on a shared server. If you opt for the VPS solution, we'll happily set it up for you and migrate your data over. However, if you choose not to upgrade to a VPS then we will no longer be able to host your website and will allow you 7 days to arrange for hosting with another provider.

Please update us within the next 48 hours with your planned course of action. Should you have any further questions or concerns please don't hesitate to let us know.

Thanks,

Well first off... that sucks. :p

I'm going to assume that you did your due diligence on the offer before taking it up in the first place.

    With regards to the transfer...

I use GoDaddy hosting and those numbers seem off to me. Maybe I'm missing something?

I only pay roughly $14/month for unlimited bandwidth and unlimited storage. This is on their "4GH Grid Hosting".

I have used other hosts in the past, and I definitely like some of the other interfaces (cPanel) better, but I rarely have to go in and play around with that stuff anyway.

That said, I've never had any real problems with GoDaddy.

    Best of luck!

    Hi,

    1. Have you seen WiredTree - Managed Dedicated Servers | Managed VPS Hosting | Fully Managed Web Hosting and Host The Domain Name yet?

    2. Rule of thumb : NEVER HOST YOUR SITES WHERE YOU REGISTERED YOUR DOMAINS.

For example. If you registered your domains with GoDaddy as the Registrar, it is not wise to host your sites there and vice-versa.

Don't want to bag on Godaddy hosting too much but if you plan to use Wordpress I personally think cPanel hosting is better. However, I'm sure some folks will disagree. Personally, my limited experience with Godaddy hosting wasn't very intuitive and well, just didn't care for it.

I'd consider Hostgator or go to webhostingtalk.com to read reviews on hosts. May even find a good deal there.

Agree with azmanar, I don't host where I register my domains but then again, I don't host with registrars at all. I figure, they're good at being a registrar, a host is good at being a host...if you know what I mean.

      Guys, Thanks for your response

I'm using wordpress on the site already, plus a few plugins. I also thought the site is not supposed to have resource problems since I'm using a cache plugin and my traffic is just about 8000 pageviews daily.

I'm thinking they may have too many of us on the shared hosting plan

And yes, I registered the domain name with a registrar somewhere else

      Thoughts?

I want to add my vote for Hostgator!

Their 24/7 support (friendly and helpful) is priceless.

And their cpanel makes administering your site really easy.

HOWEVER, be aware that their idea of "unlimited" isn't the same as mine...

They really don't want you to have more than about a hundred domains on there, plus then, there's an issue with "inodes" of which you can't have more than 100,000 - these are files, and each email and each file on a website counts towards that, so you could rack them up pretty quickly.

Best to call them up and talk about what you need to make sure it's a fit or you pick the right solution for your needs.

I personally wouldn't use Godaddy or any of the other cheap hosting packages from domain registrars. I've heard from many people that Godaddy will shut you down if you get just one spam complaint, whether it's genuine or not.

I'd also rather use cpanel than anything else.
