HELP-ADVICE PLEASE? How To - Set up EBooks and Memberships sites?

Im based in the UK
How do you set up selling ebooks? Do you just write some great content that your interested in on a Microsoft word document and then what websites do you go to to sell it? I enjoy writing and do put these online for a price would be great. I write about all kinds but what interests me is travel and culture and learning new things
Also
If you thought of a company to set up lets just say dating as this is popular, how do you go about getting the people to sign up for a monthly fee on your website and interact with one another, can this happen with an ecommerce package?
i may be off the mark completely with these methods but thats why im asking for guidance
