Have you had great success using craigslisp or have you found that it is just a huge waste of time?

From my own experience I've using it everyday for 1 month, and I've got very little response...
I was creating 3 ads per day (the max allowed) in UK, where you don't need to verify your identity with a cel phone, and I really got very little traffic due to the lot of ads I placed... so I stopped using it, till I found a better way to use that system..

I think it all depends on where you are. I've heard people having great success with it in the states, but it's only so-so where I am.

The fact is, craigslist marketing for leads is just no longer as easy as it used to be. For me really, it doesn't cut it anymore. I've now diversified and I'm the more happy for it.

Depends on what you're selling. A friend of mine sells Miche purses on there and she does quite well!

I on the other hand, sell used computer parts when I'm upgrading and everything sells pretty fast.

Think outside the box, Craigslist is the new Ebay. It's a good extra cash maker without the fees or shipping hassles.

I tried to sell some of my art on Craigslist and linked to one of my sites. I think I got maybe between 1500 and 3000 visitors. However, I got no sales. I would not consider it useless.

Depends on what you're selling. For many physical goods it still works great.

One of my past coaching students, Lisa, is making over $6k+/mo with little effort just on craigslist.. ask her if she thinks it's a waste of time?

I understand if you're feeling frustrated and feel like you're spinning your wheels in circles with little to no results.. but supposedly craigslist is getting 30billion page views per month:

    craigslist | about > factsheet

so apparently it's not a *complete* waste of time.. and somebody is making money off it, no?

So try looking at it differently.. maybe the method you are using to get leads isn't the most effective.. but there are tons of different ways to make money with it.

Jarrett is exactly right. I find from post about Craigslist that people find a product they want to promote and then try to market it on Craigslist.
When they are unsuccessful they think Craigslist doesn't work for them.
The problem is most people don't find out first what's making other people money and then pick their product. Even if they do get the right product you still must study what kind of ads are being posted in the category your product fits in. Test your ads and test again. It's not easy in the beginning but it's worth it when you get it right.

I've had great success on Craigslist in the past. It has come through for me in times when I needed to make some quick fast money and it's much easier to use than eBay in my opinion.

  • Its only a waste of time if you dont know how to use it right. If your selling something that is not saturated it should work for you.

    what is your goal?
if you are wasting your time on it, then yes.
if you are making money and having fun, then I would say no.

In America anyone can go straight to the top. And here's what's exciting- It is the bottom that is crowded, not the top.

I market some tasks on behalf of my small team of outsource workers, it keeps them busy when I've got nothing direct to provide them with, and, of course, I get a cut, so everybody's happy...

I don't advertise though, I have a number of automated responses set up to immediately catch people placing ads for help.

I only posted there a few times but was so unimpressed by the amount of response that I stopped using it entirely. My sense is that there's just not enough accountability there for it to be a useful avenue for selling services. Although I think it can still be useful for selling an old couch or end table, from what I hear among friends. I still find Facebook to be the most effective means of reaching people, at least in my line of work, partially because the network of friends and the photographs and "real world" granularity lend some solid foundation to what is being offered.

I've heard some are having great success in Craigslist but it's not for everyone - it will depend on what you are offering. Why don't you try it for yourself and see if it'll work - if not, then move on. That's better than not trying at all. Who knows if part of your success will come from Craigslist?

No Craigslist is still a money-maker. It's best for selling physical products though like gym equipment, furniture, televisions, etc.

For selling a product/service, there are far better places to do that. For hiring/outsourcing, I hear that you can get a decent response.

Not tried it, but I just read through their TOS, and noticed this line:

"Affiliate marketing is expressly prohibited on craigslist. Users may not post content or communicate with any craigslist user for purposes of affiliate marketing or in connection with any affiliate marketing system, scheme or program in any manner or under any circumstance."

It's good if you have something of high value that you can sell locally, such as a car. Otherwise, you're going to face a nightmare of filters just trying to get your posts through.
